Minnesota DUer in New O. Anyone up for brunch or coffee on Sunday?
Hi Louisiana.
I'm actually a 40 year New Orleans resident who has temporally moved to Minnesota (5 years). I returned to salvage the Family Home in Metairie (dry side of 17th St Canal). I have some time this weekend, and would like to meet with any New Orleans DUers for coffee, food, or conservation this weekend. I will be heading North on Tuesday.
I know everyone is impossibly busy, but I would feel neglectful if I made no attempt to meet with all y'all.

Bob

I was around NOLA at this current moment, then I might take you up on your offer. Had you of posted this last month, then I would of...but I would have had to bring a few friends with me as well.

What I've learnt from the Louisiana Forum is that for some reason one can't engage many of the people in a to and fro, they just DON'T seem to respond to peoples' postings, why I don't know.

For example, I've tried to engage them into discussing Louisiana politics, and by and large I've had zero luck in engaging them.

So, because of this, I decided to at least respond to your post, considering you'd taken the time to post in the first place.

3. Thanks for the reply.
In Minnesota, we have a very active group. Our core group meets monthly and we participate in local protests, attend lectures, and participate in or sponsor other forms of activism. Over the years, I've become friends with several members of our group. Meeting the "flesh and blood" person on the other end of the keyboard has been a delight. I've never been disappointed. It has sustained my spirit through the "dark years".

New Orleans will ALWAYS be my home, and I hate what has happened to her.
I will stay active in the Louisiana Forum from Minneapolis until I return to the South. My request was "out of the blue" with little notice. I know everyone is busy. I've found it almost impossible to accomplish some of the smallest tasks (like finding a roofer to give me an estimate on repairs, or getting an adjuster to actually inspect the house). So my heart goes out to ALL New Orleans DUers. Good Luck to all.

If any of you pass through the Twin Cities, post to the Minnesota Forum. We will be glad to meet you, and give you the nickle tour.
I recommend Jan or Feb (really). It is spectacular.

Thanks again,
Bob

4. I'm kinda far from N.O.
for a quick visit and I was quite busy this weekend. I hope you are enjoying the awesome weather this weekend! It has not rained here since September 24, when Rita hit. We are expecting some rain Monday night/Tuesday morning.

http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html
Although Hurricanes Katrina and Rita both affected Louisiana in August and September, respectively, D0 was introduced as far east as Monroe southward to Lafayette. Most of this area is experiencing only 30-60 percent of normal year-to-date precipitation. Many areas have deficits as large as 20 inches below normal. Alexandria’s year-to-date precipitation total is only 26.66 inches, which is 21.61 below normal. Lafayette’s year-to-date precipitation total is only 31.01 inches, which is 20.23 below normal. This may be an area to watch for worsening conditions in coming weeks if precipitation amounts remain minimal.

5. The lack of rain has been a blessing for New Orleans.
No rain and unseasonably low humidity has helped alot of people (myself included) dry out their houses and attack the mold problems. Most roofs aren't repaired yet. It has also helped tremendously in clearing the streets of the huge mounds of debris. They would weigh two or three times as much if they were wet.
The lack of moisture has also helped keep down the potential for disease and pestilence.

Thanks for the response.
