Not in MY backyard, use abandoned home sites and parking lots
Excerpts from Times Picayune article here: <http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/metro/index.ssf?/base/news-12/1134113731319820.xml>

New Orleans City Council members said Thursday that Mayor Ray Nagin's administration has violated a promise to halt installation of group trailer parks for displaced residents until it secured approval of each site from the district council member.

A news release from the council said members were "disappointed to receive phone calls from angry constituents" reporting that work is continuing on group trailer sites at places council members had made clear they did not want trailers, such as some parks and playgrounds.

Council members have strongly pushed the administration and FEMA to speed up installation of trailers on individual lots where owners cannot live in their hurricane-damaged homes. But they spent more than an hour at their Dec. 1 meeting complaining about many of the sites where the administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency planned to put large groups of trailers.

. . . .
Council members believe "there are sufficient alternate sites controlled by the city," such as abandoned home sites and city-owned parking lots, to make use of parks and playgrounds for trailers unnecessary, the statement said.

not once Jackie Clarkson, the "Wicked Witch of the West Bank", starts cackling. Did someone leave Patricia on her doorstep in a basket, ring the bell and run? They can't possibly be related...

Disclaimer: I worked on the campaign of her original opponent way back when, Larry Bagneris Jr., who is one of the two most inspiring political speakers I have ever seen (the other is my current congressional rep, Neil Abercrombie). Assuming he's back in (he lives in the Quarter), I'd look for him to emerge from the muck and mire as one of those "new leaders" everyone's been talking about.

Edit: The "good" news is, she'll probably let them dump all the trailers in the East Bank portion of District C :sarcasm:

2. No benches Clarkson?

Yes, Jackie is something. She took away the benches at Jackson Square and then replaced them with arm rests so we can't take a nap or stated another way, we are allowed to sit a safe distance away from "others".

I haven't seen or heard from Larry Bagneris, Jr. If he's back, he's in deep cover.

3. people of New Orleans don't want Katrina refugees?
So even the people of New Orleans don't want Katrina refugees? It's kind of hard to expect other parts of the State to take refugees if you won't even take your own.

4. Tell us EXACTLY, in DETAIL how we can "take our own?"
You wanna come here and build some houses and renovate? How about you come here and clean up the toxic waste for a year or two?

:argh:
