1. I seriously doubt
the accuracy of the second result. It doesn't jibe with all the other polling I've seen. I do think we have our work cut out for us though.

2. Steele's pulling 33% of the African American vote.

I think the results are reflective of an upset AA community coupled with the negative blogger press Cardin is receiving.

9. It wasn't intended to be 'helpful'. It was an expression of an opinion.

Son of Kweisi Mfume Makes Unexpected Appearance at Steele Event

Baltimore (AP) - U.S. Senate candidate Michael Steele had a surprise visitor Thursday while campaigning with Democrats in Baltimore.

Michael Mfume, one of Kweisi Mfume's sons, appeared at the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center after Steele held a press conference with Baltimore Democrats and other Steele supporters.

When asked if his appearance represented his father's support for Steele, the younger Mfume didn't say yes or no. Instead, he quoted a Billie Holliday song describing how a son makes his own decisions.

14. I think Billie Holliday tells us what there is to this.
Sounds to me like the son is taking the defeat harder than the father. This has been known to crop up in various circumstances.

Alternatively(and we could never know this for sure, not knowing the Mfume family's internal dynamics)it could also be that the son is in some way estranged from his father and chose to "act out" by creating a potentially embarassing situation for his old man.

I think we can assume that Mfume would not have sent his son to the Steele rally on his behalf. There's no way a long-time Democratic congressman would be unaware of the consequences to his own career for doing something like that.

13. Too late for that...
Edited on Sat Sep-23-06 01:13 AM by Ken Burch
...But Cardin could issue an apology for those in his campaign who really went to the mat on the "Vote Cardin cause Kweisi can't win and has skeletons in his closet" arguement.

And Cardin could make a point of saying that Mfume's social justice agenda will be Cardin's if he's elected.

Also, Cardin could admit that he was wrong to back "free trade" and start taking a pro-worker stand on trade issues instead.

11. I haven't seen any Cardin ads on tv since the primary
What's up with that? Cardin is allowing Steele to set the tone. It just seems that the momentum is in Steele's favor.

12. We Need Some Ads!
We need some ads showing how much money Steele has gotten from the RNC. Oh, and throw in his quote about stem cell research being equivalent to the Holocaust, too. That'll change people's minds.
