1. What happened?
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 03:18 PM by Pithlet
I don't live in Maryland anymore, but when I did (80's to mid 90's), that was my favorite station.

Edit. Duh, checked your link. I can't believe it! HFS is gone?!?! There's a chance I may move back to that area some day. I just always thought HFS would be there.

6. It was the station in the 70's
I listened to it all the time when they were in Bethesda.

Well that just concludes that our radio market is cattering strictly to the young latino market more and more. D.C. has totally rotten radio, IMO.

7. Holy crap
In a shocking move, Infinity has converted 20-year modern rock bastion WHFS Washington, D.C., to Spanish as "El Zol" 99.1. The station will play a mixture of Salsa, Merengue and Bachata, targeting adults 25-54.

8. Okay, I feel a **little** better
It could have been RWHateRadio or Christian music. Hopefully this just refelcts the changing demographics.

Sorry to all who have fond memories of this station. I know how you feel, having seen mine (from the 60's) long ago having changed formats.

9. It is good
and I don't even live there anymore, so I can't really complain. I just wish they could have used another frequency. It's just so hard to believe that HFS is gone. Radio has changed so much though, in a short period of time. The era of long term, community based radio stations has passed. Consolidation combined with a more mobile society have killed it.

10. DC 101 was hurting them ... and I like merengue, anyway
but I am hooked on XM Satellite radio now, which is also headquartered in the District, so all the DJs are local.

Many of the XM DJs came right off local public radio shows, particularly WAMU.

11. Listen to 105.7 (HFS on the weekends and on-line??)
Apparently 105.7 FM is now broadcasting what they are calling "The Legendary HFS" on the weekends (Friday nights until Monday mornings)...and I also thought that I heard that HFS is going to be broadcasting on-line now as well.

Again, this is what I heard on the radio last night...and there aren't too many details on the 105.7 web-page:

http://www.live1057.com/

Guess we'll see....

To be honest with you, I'm sorry to see that 105.7 is no longer carrying "Ron & Fez" - I really liked their show (I also noticed that they got rid of the guys who hosted the "Out to Lunch" show).

Speaking of radio - did you ever listen to Allan Prell when he was on WBAL? Apparently, he is back on the air in Seattle (on 710 KIRO).
Along with Marc Steiner (on WYPR) Allan was my favorite talk show host.

14. Never listened to Allan Prell...
I've heard from many people, though, that I should have.

I hardly ever listened to Ron and Fez because I was generally home dealing the the kids by then. But, I always liked them when I got to hear them. They were just on Don and Mike a week or so playing Match Game and were very funny.

From what I heard, Miles and Thrill (Out to Lunch) were offered a job in Seattle and when the station found out, they terminated them immediately. I will miss them, I listened to them almost every day. I've also heard that Don and Mike may move to mornings when Stern leaves. I hope not.
