Judge rules MI Primary can go on
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 03:47 PM by vanboggie

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- A federal judge ruled Monday against a Democratic activist who sued to stop Michigan's Democratic presidential primary election because the candidate she supports is not on the state primary ballot.

U.S. District Judge Robert J. Jonker said the matter was a dispute between the state and national Democratic parties.

Earl Erland, a Grand Rapids attorney representing Martha Hayes, a John Edwards backer, initially asked for a halt to the election in the lawsuit filed Dec. 10.

On Monday, he eased away from that request, asking instead that the judge prohibit the secretary of state's office from certifying the Democratic election results and bar Democrats from using the outcome to select delegates for the Democratic National Convention.

1. There goes our last hope.
Not that I'm surprised, but this sucks.

2. I hope this mess continues to snowball
Since common sense cannot prevail in a system as rigged as ours, the only hope is for this insanity to continue to grow until it reaches critical mass at the convention. Maybe THEN the party leaders will be BEGGING for a new system. Of course, a new system could be even more screwed up than this one... if that's possible!

By the way -- and perhaps you guys have seen this -- I rather resent being told by non-Michigan DUers that this mess is somehow directly the fault of us Michigan voters for letting our leaders "get out of our control." Because to that I say, even if I directly appointed those who've failed us, I should still retain my right to vote! We've all had leaders at the national and local levels for whom we've voted but who let us down with unwise decisions -- and we were never held personally accountable and punished for it by having our right to vote taken away from us. Sheesh.

I sent John s'more money tonight.:)

After reading that, I was angry enough to send her my thoughts. Here's the contact form:

It's so depressing. I think this is the first time I've disagreed with the Governor.

6. I was a FIEGER supporter.
I disagree with her on almost EVERYTHING.

But not in public.

Just here.

She got served a *hit sandwich when Engler left,
but she has given us leftovers ever since.

DLC all the way.

7. Yep. She is DLC ... and it shows.
I'd rather have Bill Milliken than a DLCer, quite frankly. Poor Soapy must be spinning in his grave.
