JonBenet Ramsey's Father Runs for Office
Wed Jun 16, 3:56 PM ET Add U.S. National - AP to My Yahoo!

By JOHN FLESHER, Associated Press Writer

CHEBOYGAN, Mich. - John Ramsey greets voters at his campaign office with a handshake, a free hot dog — and a book that declares he didn't kill his daughter.

The father of JonBenet Ramsey, the 6-year-old beauty queen strangled in her Boulder, Colo., home, is running for the Michigan House, despite the suspicions that continue to hang over him and wife.

But Ramsey is not running away from the issue. In fact, he talks about JonBenet all along the campaign trail — in his announcement speech, in fliers, in a TV ad to be aired before the Aug. 3 primary.

"I'm running because I believe something good can come from both my professional success — and the personal tragedy our family has survived," the 60-year-old Republican says in the television spot.

1. I do not believe the Ramseys killed their daughter
however, I do question the wisdom of anyone who allows their six year old daughter to be painted up like a street hooker.

3. Republicans. Sigh.
I don't even think he killed his daughter, but the whole thought of running and re-opening that whole question, even using that incident as one of his campaign posts, just seems sad.

I could see it if he were already a politician, or if he had been building a career through some type of activism and running for office was an extension of that. A tragedy like that shouldn't kill his career, and might even enhance his sensitivities to crime. But this man has jumped all over the country since then, has not put down roots long enough to be an activist, and is simply using the noteriety of his daughter's murder as a publicity tool.

That's just so typically Republican. They love to run actors, atheletes, sons of famous people-- people who aren't prepared but who are famous for some other reason. This is just a sick example of their normal trend.
