Local Gas Station displays Bush/Cheney lawn signs
on their property, which fronts a local, well-traveled highway.

I plan to call the manager tomorrow and thank him for politicizing his business. If he hadn't posted his affiliation in plain site I (and all the other drivers in the family) would still be buying my gas there.

2. yeah, but he's one in a chain of stations and they're not all doing it

hey!!! You gave me an idea - I'll call their headquarters (Holiday) and ask if this is representative of the corporate viewpoint and if so, thanks for the info and the B/C signage and bye bye.

3. You should first find out

if it's independently owned or large corporate owned (and the
local manager is taking upon themselves to make political stmts).
Large corporations like to do their political support with money,
not with outward political displays (plus almost every large
corp "hedges" a little by contributing to both parties).

A complaint to the corporation might be in order.

5. Culvers in Buffalo did that in 2002 for Coleman. Held a rally there too.
I haven't stepped foot in their place since, and never will.

6. that's the way I feel as well. I did find out that the guy who owns this
particular Holiday owns at least one other plus additional businesses. His other station is not displaying the signs.

7. If you get the owner let him know I also will not stop at any business
that displays Bush signs. Personally I don't know why a business would publically take sides when our country is so evenly divided. Nothing is better. Put the signs up at home.

9. give us names!
If he's sneaking under the radar with his other business, the inquiring minds at DU need to know. I hope he goes bankrupt and ends up having to work night shift at a convenience store - ah, sweet poetic justice!

10. Couldn't you complain to the parent company?
I don't know if they'd care, but it might send a reminder about doing business objectively.

11. U P D A T E
I tracked down the owner (finally!) after talking to the company headquarters customer service rep: He is an independent franchisee.

We just finished a cordial conversation and he was NOT aware his station was displaying Bush/Cheney signage. He had not been to this site for a few days. His other station has no B/C displayed (I checked).

I mentioned kikiek's point - the country is split so half the people dislike seeing the signs. (Also, in trying to find the phone number for the station I talked to another station manager - he's part of the chain, not an indy - but he got very mad and said this one station could affect business for all the rest of the chain - and what an idiot whoever put them up was.)

The owner asked me to describe where the signs are, thinking they might be on the right of way. When he finally visualized where they were he went - Oh boy - we can't do that - we have to stay neutral!

I said whoever put them up probably was just trying to support their candidate but must not have good business sense.

So he's heading over there tonight to see what's going on. He asked if he should call me back with the outcome - I told him we'd be able to tell, driving by tomorrow.

14. "Right-of-way" signage is almost always illegal by ordinance
So if they are in the "boulevard" area, chances are you can take them down yourself. Check your city ordinances to be sure.

15. we checked tonight and all but one sign are gone. The one that is
left is stuck in a small, obscure area - he must not have seen it.
