Being a registered independent
is getting interesting. My partner, who is, got a phone call (recording) at home yesterday from * asking him to go out and get an absentee ballot and send it in, voting of course for *. I find this highly suspicious and disturbing. I thought absentee ballots were for those who knew they would be out of town at that time? Were they suggesting he do something illegal?

1. No. In fact this is one of our biggest hopes
Dems always do way more footwork then reps. In my state, we brought in 6 times the absentee ballots republicans did and it made the difference for Gore in 2000. It is always a good idea to make voting easier. This year is really the first attempt by republicans to copy what we do. With Moveon, ACT, and others, we wil not be beat in that area.

2. Also, it ensures a paper trail.
If your precinct has electronic voting, I strongly suggest voting absentee.

5. I haven't been able to ascertain that yet.
I had signed up to be an observer if they were going to use the computers but I haven't heard anything back on that yet. Of course it's still a ways off.

3. A "registered" independent??

Just curious, when did you start registering party affiliation in MN??

P.S. You may want to report the phone solicitation to the Secrtary of State, but since she won't do anything about it inform the DFL and the media as well. I beleive that "unnecessary" absentee voting is not legal in MN.

must have been 12 years ago when we first moved here. You have to be registered as something to vote in the primaries. That way they know which page to give you.

I would like to hear about anyone else out there getting a similar call.

7. Not trying to be confrontational, but you're wrong.
You do not register under a party in MN you can vote in any party primary you desire as long as you only participate in one. There are no records kept.

The GOP got your name from somewhere other than the voter registration if they believe you to be an independent.

8. Thanks
Frankly I couldn't remember that far back. Maybe from past voting history?

4. Another paranoid (sort of) explaination.
The Republicans want the Independents to vote absentee NOW---They don't want them to change their minds!
