WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Democrats' congressional fundraising arm has reserved $1.5 million in Twin Cities TV advertising time for the final two weeks of the campaign, a move that could boost the chances of DFL candidates Patty Wetterling and Teresa Daly.
Wetterling, who gained a national reputation for her child-safety crusade, is challenging Republican Rep. Mark Kennedy in Minnesota's Sixth District. Daly, a Burnsville City Council member, faces freshman Republican Rep. John Kline in the Second District.
If the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) goes forward with an ad blitz on their behalf, it would mark an unusually large cash infusion into Minnesota House races by a national party.
DCCC spokesman Greg Speed said the committee reserved the time early "because we knew Minneapolis was going to be a very crowded market."
