From DFL Chair Mike Erlandson Condemning Golden Valley Hate-Mail Attacking Kerry Supporters

Invites all Minnesotans to engage positively in campaigns.


St. Paul - Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chair Mike Erlandson offered the following statement regarding the recent hate mail sent to Kerry-Edwards supporters in Golden Valley.

"On behalf of Minnesota Democrats, I want to express my outrage upon learning that residents of Golden Valley displaying John Kerry lawn signs received hateful letters attacking them for supporting John Kerry and John Edwards. These hate-letters were shamefully disguised in Rosh Hashanah cards and sent while thousands of Jewish families are celebrating the New Year.

“There is no place in our political discourse for such hate-filled attacks. I call on anyone participating in such hateful actions to stop, and instead turn their attention and focus to the important issues of this campaign. There are many ways for people to engage positively in campaigns, and for our common good I invite all Minnesotans to do so.”

Hate Letters Arrive In Some Golden Valley Residents' Mail

Golden Valley, Minn. (WCCO) Golden Valley police want to know who sent threatening letters to more than a dozen people.

The letters contained anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic and anti-gay references. The letters also appear to be politically targeted.

When some John Kerry signs when up, a letter arrived. The letter is a rambling denunciation of many groups. Judaism is described this way: “Jesus as Messiah- rejecting Jews who needed more time and incentive to get converted to Christianity.”

:hi: I'm doing quite well. I am thrilled by the political attention that is being paid in my neighborhood. Everyone I encounter is voting for Kerry, which is pretty exciting. While Uptown is the bastion of liberalism, even former Naderites understand the gravity of this year's election. Young people who normally aren't "into politics" are paying close attention. I know we are going to win in November--I can just taste it; thus the bigoted desperation of the lovely hate mailer. NS-Bush is going down. I feel it in my bones. :bounce:

How is school? How long before you become (as bush would say) a "lawyering type?" Do you have a year left?
