Good news from the Iron Range
Just returned from the Iron Range, not campaigning, just visiting. The further north I went, the more Kerry support I saw. Up in the iron range, the Kerry supporters overwhelmed Bush about 10 to 1. I am not exaggerating, there were Kerry/Edwards signs and bumper stickers everywhere. The range has always been important in carrying Minnesota.

2. Iron Range is historically very Dem.
See this map:

Those large red counties in the northeast portion of the state? That's the Iron Range. (That site has red vs. blue opposite of what they normally signify.)

3. Talked a long time to a Ranger at the DFL convention in May
One line of his stands out:

"Up here, a 'close' election is when Oberstar wins by less than 70%."

The Range is also responsible for Wellstone's two US Senate victories. In fact, there's parts of the range that are so DFL dominated that the DFL primary is the real election, and the GE is just a formality.

In fact, I think that happened in a leg district this year....but I forget which one.
