1. From Wiki
In 1996, Madia was a supporter of Republican Senator Bob Dole in his bid for the White House against president Bill Clinton.<4> In the 2000 presidential race, Madia volunteered for Senator John McCain. Madia was a moderate Republican until 2002, when his positions on social issues and Iraq led him to the Democratic Party. In 2006, Madia volunteered on the DFL campaigns of Grace Baltich, Andy Borene, Senator Satveer Chaudhary, and Wendy Wilde.<5>

My brother-in-law, also a Marine lawyer, was at the U if N with Madia and also worked with him in Iraq. They attended different law schools. When I saw him earlier this year he told me that Madia was running and that he was a "good guy". It was probably a Marine career busting move to change to Democrat. (Just my opinion)

2. Thanks. I guess many start at one party and then switch
but what the ad points out is that when first asked, he said NO...

3. Ashwin Madia changed his story on whom he voted for in 2000.
"Roll Call's Shira Toeplitz pointed us to this interview, with Minnesota Public Radio, in which Madia admits that he voted for President Bush in 2000 after telling the same station that he voted for Al Gore that year."
