Minneapolis pub sells most Jameson whiskey for third straight year

Once again, the bar that sells the most Jameson Irish Whiskey is not in Ireland. It's in downtown Minneapolis.

For a record third consecutive year, the Local Irish Pub has sold the most Jameson of any bar in the world.

The Local is owned and operated by Kiernan Folliard and Peter Killen, two Irishmen who adopted Minneapolis as their hometown.

The Local's signature drink is "The Big Ginger," made of Jameson and ginger ale. Sales of the drink helped the Local sell 671 cases of Jameson in 2008. That amounts to 22 bottles of the Irish whiskey every day.

Executives of the Irish Distillers Limited group in Dublin will be at the Local today to present a plaque to the pub's owners.

I'm so proud! And Jameson is my drug of choice, though I haven't been to The Local enough to take credit for their award.

3. If we're going to have an official meet-up
at the Local (or elsewhere) and we want to have a significant number of people attending, someone has to take the responsibility of sending out PMs to all the usual suspects. I've done it several times, but I'm swamped with work and other stuff and don't really have time this week.

9. I suppose I can do some of that
perhaps we should make it a group effort.

5. The Local would be fun.
We haven't been there for a long time and I can take the train downtown.

6. Saw this on the news last night.
That drink sounds dangerously smooth. Mr. Folliard was absolutely giddy about winning that award again - and had zero plans to relinquish it in the future. I gotta make it down there sometime.

7. We must all do our part to keep The Local in fist place!
I used to mix Windsor with ginger ale and that was tasty. But, I have been mocked for mixing Jameson with water. The true Jameson fan drinks it neat - with maybe a water back.

8. I think it is sacrilegious to mix it with anything
other than ice cubes.

10. If you try a Big Ginger you might just change your mind.
I tried making one myself last night, since I knew I wouldn't be able to go downtown anytime soon. Take a large glass. Add ice. Pour in two shots of Jameson, a splash of lemon juice, and fill the glass with ginger ale. The Local's are probably better, but I must say, that was a very tasty drink. The ginger ale and Jameson really complement each other well.

11. I suspect the Bushnell's would be appropriate substitute?

12. Yeah, I bet any quality whiskey would do.
(Maybe even some less-than-stellar varieties. I always have a bottle of cheap vodka for mixed drinks but quality stuff for sipping.)

13. That's sacrilege!
Ice is just wrong in whiskey.
