Healthcare/Cancer treatments and good news.
Long story short, my mom has a weird type of cancer. A bit in the lungs, a bit on the liver, some in the bone, originating in the endocrine system (or so I've been told). in 2008 she was referred to a doctor in Iowa that in turn referred her for treatment in Switzerland (my parents are retired and they had to pay cash for this treatment). They dont offer this treatment in the United States.

So anyhoo, after a year and a half, mom returns to the Iowan doctor for a annual checkup and finds that none of the cancer has spread or grown. This is fantastic news for someone that wasnt expected to live. She will always have cancer, but at this point it is no longer growing in her body.

Thank you Swiss health care. I'm told this treatment is provided at minimal cost to Europeans.

I have no sympathy for health care companies in the U.S. or for politicians that dont support a public option, doctors that are in it for the money or scabs that make profits from disease.

Love you Mom!

LL

2. I'm with you 100%
And I am so glad your Mom is doing well.

Let's face it, though, some people are evil. Putting money before something like this is sick. This is why I was so upset when Amy Klobuchar refused to support the public option until it was too late -- and then she pretended she supported it all along. I called her office many times asking if she had decided to support the public option and was told many times that she was not supporting it. Then, all of a sudden, after it was impossible for the public option to pass, Amy Klobuchar started say she had always liked the public option. She wanted to have it both ways. She wanted to stay in the good graces of the insurance company execs who gave her campaign money and she wanted to avoid Blanche Lincoln's problems with progressive Democrats. I will never forgive Amy Klobuchar for her failure to support the public option. Add to that her support of "clean coal", her support nuclear power, her support Obama's endless wars, her refusal to vote to break up the big financial oligarchies, her failure to work to create badly needed jobs for the middle class hurt so badly by this never ending recession, etc., etc. I will never ever forgive Amy Klobuchar or ever vote for her again. As far as I am concerned she is a sick, cruel and evil person.

I am so glad for your Mom. I am glad she was able to get the care she needed.

I dont understand it, but essentially cancer cells need nutrition. The treatments somehow disallowed cancer cells to 'feed' and grow.
