Fahrenheit 911 showing in Oakdale and not at the Uptown?
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 09:02 AM by myrna minx

I'm hoping that this is a partial listing, because it would be quite difficult for me to cruise to Oakdale. Anyone else have any further info? Anyone work at the Lagoon?

1. Maybe someone in the Cities could call the Lagoon?
(It's long distance for me, so I don't wanna.)

Lagoon: (612) 825-6006

Btw, Farenheit 9/11 IS on Landmark's list of "Films Now Showing and Coming Soon" (Landmark being Lagoon's parent company): http://www.landmarktheatres.com/Films/FilmIndex_frameset.htm
(scroll down to 'F')

I can't imagine that it WON'T be shown in Uptown. Let's have a DU get-together when it opens!

3. Cool!
I've been fine (pretty busy), how about you? :hi: Would love to see you again! Had a blast at the DFL state convention, met up with "no name no slogan", the only other DUer I knew by sight -- but not the only other DUer there.

Fridays and Saturdays are my days off, so driving down for the opening of F 9/11 on Friday, June 25 would work out great for me -- I could even stay for a little apres-film hanging out.

I'll be watching for your update...

15. Pretty sure I can make that, too!
I think I have a big family reunion thingy up north that weekend, but I don't know if I'll go. It's a 6+ hour drive each way, and they're always a bit awkward for me (it's my dad's side of the family-- my folks split when I was 4, and my mom raised me).

I'll tentatively say "Yes", since I need to see that film anyway. ROCK &/OR ROLL!!!

13. Okay, all you city folk, you guys pick the theatre, and I'll be there.
Since I'll be driving 100 miles to get there, it doesn't matter to me which metro area theatre the rest of you decide on. I just want to be able to meet up with as many other DUers as possible!

I'll put in my vote for the Lagoon, since I know the way there, but if a different location works better, it's fine with me.

14. The Lagoon is probably the best location
from a busing stand point and all.

Though part of me would like to see the movie in Lakeville (which is a hike even from Bloomington in one's own car and is unrealistic for one of our gatherings) my reasons being 1) parking is easier  2) they have stadium seating which is a gift from God for us shorter types 3) mostly because that is Republican country (John Kline's district). The crowd at the Lagoon is way more apt to think like us and be more up on things. It might be entertaining to watch it with people who may be hearing some of it for the first time. I have a sadistic urge to watch their faces as the truth dawns on them.

17. STUNNED - SHOCKED!
that it will open in Rochester! I was going to take my daughter when we were in the cities later in June, but might be able to do so opening day!

Bowling had a hard time getting here - stayed longer than I expected so that must be a part of why it gets the early nod!

19. Should we start making plans?
Edited on Tue Jun-15-04 10:24 AM by Lydia Leftcoast
How about meeting at Zenos or at the Lotus beforehand for an early meal and then taking a walk over to the Lagoon?

In my experience as a core member of a movie buffs' group in Portland, seeing a talked about movie on the first weekend carries with it the danger of being crowded out.

If most people aren't "goin' up to de lake" on Fourth of July weekend, would July 2 work better? If we do go with June 25, we will all have to be sure to buy our tickets ahead of time. No last minute flaking out.

The 25th does work as well.

21. HAS ANYONE CONSIDERED A SATURDAY MEETING?
Greetings MN DUers...I am new to this site, but have been a regular Common Dreams/Alternet/TomPaine/Nation reader for a year and a half now, having been intellectually starved by radio and TV news.

I would like to get active in local politics and would feel more comfortable about it if I had a few politically aware acquaintances; my wife is depoliticized as is just about everyone I know up here. I am a mid-Atlantic transplant...MN resident for 11 years now.

When I first moved up here, I considered myself a refugee of sorts, having lived in Pat Robertson's backyard for a dozen years.

I am a member of the CWA and employed by the local Bell company...you know the name...I don't do "branding."

That's my brief intro. I'd like to venture out and meet people who stand under the same umbrella as I do. It's a BIG umbrella, I know.

I could probably make a 6/25 show, but Saturdays are usually best for me. 6/3, instead of 6/2, for example.

I am in Saint Paul near Bandanna Square and am game for Uptown...saw "Columbine" there...WITH my wife, and Oakdale/White Bear would be fine with me as well...I also like the "Republican observatory" idea and would be willing to acquire an airline sickness bag and make a Lakeville meeting. :puke:

31. Thanks for the welcome, Supormom!!
I think I'm going to go for the Lagoon on opening night; I work with a bunch of conservative, union oxymorons and I'd like to first enjoy the movie with people who know when to cheer.

I would, however, be up to making another show another time. Saturdays work best for me...two thirds of them, anyway.

Keep posting...we'll work something out.

25. Okay, here's my personal preferences...
Saturdays are not good for me, although I would be willing to drive down to the Cities (a 2 hour trip) for an early afternoon showing. A Saturday evening show would be out due to my work schedule.

The 4th of July weekend is definitely OUT for me. I have alot of other stuff going on.

To be honest, I was all excited about seeing F911 on opening day -- I don't know, just feels like the kind of special event I'd like to be a part of. I had planned on ordering my ticket ahead of time online so I wouldn't have to worry about getting in.

I really DO want to be able to make this into a DU get-together. I guess I was kind of hoping it could be just a simple agreement to meet up at the Lagoon theatre on opening night and spend some quality time either before or after the show.

Now folks are tossing out ideas for different theatres and different dates...

At this point, I think I'll just plan on ordering my ticket online and driving down to the Lagoon theater on Friday, June 25. Anyone else who wants to join me, that would be way cool...

I don't know the showtimes yet. Judging by the current offerings at the Lagoon, it will likely be a choice between 4/5-ish, 7-ish, and 9-ish. I'd prefer the 4/5-ish or 7-ish. Let me know which would work for you. :D

30. I think I can make 6/25 work, and I love the Lagoon
From the other posts, it looks like opening night is pretty popular.

Also, to anyone who reads this post, I wouldn't mind catching another show somewhere else in the TC.

Also, I have copies of "Orwell Rolls in His Grave." If anyone's interested in obtaining a copy, I'll bring some along with me. There wasn't anything new in it for me, but it is well put together and makes me want to re-read "1984," which I read in 1982, when I was in high school.

Paul Tetreault is my name and I live in Saint Paul with my wife and two cats.

The most important thing to do next is to buy your tickets to see the movie on opening night. MoveOn members will pack the theaters that night, and we'll all wear something blue so we can see our strength. But in many places tickets are going fast, so you should buy them right away. Go to:

http://www.F911tix.com

Go to Moveon.org to sign a pledge that you will attend as to keep the rw'ers from getting the movie censored.
