What's the poop on Forciea (Former Moe, Wellstone consultant)
Some former consultant to Wellstone and Moe just admitted to stealing millions, and he will probably go to the hooskow.

What's the scoop on this guy? (I'd be really interested in the U of MN sports dirt...Didn't they have a lot of problems with U sports, and the director went to work for some school in Texas??)

Here's the story

Attorney: Forciea to plead guilty to federal charges
by Michael Khoo, Minnesota Public Radio
June 10, 2004

SNIP

An attorney for sports entrepreneur and political consultant Pat Forciea says his client has acknowledged defrauding several banks and business partners of millions of dollars. Forciea served as a consultant on DFLer Paul Wellstone's 1990 campaign that launched the senator's political career. Forciea went on to develop numerous connections to professional and collegiate sports organizations in the following years. But now he seems likely to face time behind bars.

AND SNIP

The U.S. Attorney's office declined to discuss the case. Two Twin Cities banks and a Forciea business associate who were potentially defrauded of millions of dollars were unavailable for comment or simply declined. Forciea is also reportedly under investigation for stealing $10,000 from a University of Minnesota sports promotion campaign in the late 1990s.

Forciea has also been a prominent DFL strategist since he helped Paul Wellstone win his first election to the U.S. Senate. Most recently, Forciea served as campaign manager for DFLer Roger Moe's unsuccessful gubernatorial bid in 2002. Moe says he was shocked to learn of Forciea's current financial straits.

3. Pat's an okay guy, but I've always been a little leary of him
I first met him in 1988 on the Dukakis campaign, and he's a good guy overall-- I'm glad he's on our team. However, he is definately more of the "political operative" type than myself or most other lefties I know, who tend to be more on the grassroots/activism side of things.

That being said, bipolar disorder can make you do some seriously screwy things. I'm a major depressive myself, but I've had a manic episode where you feel indestructable and unstopable. You spend money like it's water, you don't listen to anybody but yourself and that little voice in your head that says "fuck the consequences, DO IT". You may not sleep, or maybe just an hour or two, before you're off again at the speed of light. But eventually you crash, and can't do a damned thing for weeks, even months. It's a hell of way to go through life, and I'm glad he's finally getting it taken care of.

I only hope that Pat's getting the treatment he needs, and that he can make proper restitution to the people he's wronged.

"there but for the grace of God...." and all the other crazy crapola you read on Hallmark cards...

4. I know risk taking is part of the disorder....
Interestingly enough the Wellstone legacy is fighting for mental health parity. :hi:

5. Indeed it is-- which is one of my MAJOR pet issues
I've been uninsured before when I've had the depression, and my drugs alone cost ±$260/mo. That's not counting any psych sessions. It's do damned expensive to get sick in this country anymore, I tell ya.

BTW, IIRC the Wellstone bus will make an appearance at Mpls's Juneteenth parade this weekend. I got an email looking for volunteers to walk with it in the parade.

Fortunately, the big Juneteenth celebration is held in Theo Wirth Park, a few blocks away from where I live. It's always a great party, with lots of neat stuff going on, and some fantastic music!

But, unfortunately this year, I've got other committments all weekend with family, so I'll miss it. :( There's always next year I guess!

:hi:
