A state legislative candidate from the Swan Valley was charged with misdemeanor partner assault Monday in Missoula Justice Court for allegedly abusing his wife.

Thomas A. Opre, 39, was arrested Sunday evening after his wife called 9-1-1 and reported that he had hit and grabbed her in an aggressive manner.

Opre was released from the Missoula County jail on his own recognizance Monday afternoon, but is prohibited from having contact with his wife.


Opre, a Republican and wildlife filmmaker, is running against state Rep. Kevin Furey for control of House District 91, which spans eastern Missoula County. Opre has no previous criminal record.

Looks like an easy re-election win for Kevin Furey, Iraq War Veteran and the incumbent in that race.
