the state legistalure just passed that last time. They look you up by address if you've voted there before; if you're not on the list they add you after checking ID (or a piece of mail). If you don't have ANY form of ID, they still let you vote after signing an afadavit saying you're who you say you are.
We vote on optical scan machines. they seem to work pretty well -- during the primaries they were smart enough to beep and reject your ballot if you voted in both the republican and democratic columns.
