How is Fingerhut's campaign going?
In my area, it must be terrible. At my office wide meeting on Tuesday morning, I offered a $10 Starbucks gift card to whoever could name the Democrats' candidate for Senate 1st. Out of 43 well-educated professionals, and their assistants, not one person knew. Most didn't even know that somebody was running against Voinovich. How does the campaign intend to fix this?

2. I think the problem in Ohio is that the Republican
Party is so well organized, and they choose their candidates for statewide office very well. They are so damn middle of the road that it is tedious. Voinovich is boring, DeWine is boring, Petro is boring, Montgomery is boring, Taft is boring. As candidates, they have very little that the average voter will object over. For example, last governors election. Hagen was objectionable to conservative-leaning moderates as he was easily painted with the "liberal" label. Taft, while not really liked by anybody, was unobjectionable except by a liberal. Keep in mind that I'm referring to average voters here.

3. I wouldn't call DeWine "middle of the road". He's very, very R-W
on lots of issues.

5. DeWine
DeWine holds a special place of hatred in my heart. DeWine is predictably anti-choice and authoritarian on many issues, but he actually votes with the Dems on a wide range of issues, from unemployment benefits to banning so-called "assault weapons."

DeWine is *very* unpopular among my mostly Republican shooting buddies because of his very strong support for even the expanded "assault weapons" ban.

To me, with a few minor exceptions, DeWine picks the worst possible positions from both party platforms and combines them into one appalling record.

DeWine is up for re-election in 2006, and would be vulnerable to a moderate, pro-gun Democrat who could pick up the disgruntled Republican gun-owners in southern Ohio while still carrying Democratic northern Ohio.

Sadly, the Ohio Democratic Party keeps running anti-gun northern Ohio Democrats for statewide office who have no appeal to southern Ohio independents and moderates.

7. I'm gonna have to say yes.
They're all vulnerable because of their proximity to the president.

As Bush's popularity declines, they have to walk a fine line of not appearing to agree with him on issues that people think he bungled. Issues like no child left behind, medicare "modernization", etc.

6. Poll not too long ago...
Had Voinovich with only about 48% support for re-election (Fingerhut was at about 36%). I think that's remarkable considering the margins of victory that Voinovich rolled up throughout the 1980's and 1990's. A former two-term governor running for his second term in the Senate, yet less that half of the voters are will to punch his ticket.

Fingerhut has a long way to go, but given the attention that Ohio is going to be getting during the next four months, voters will have a long time to think about the issues and who's on their side in Washington. He could pull a huge upset.

8. I got this if anybody wants to help
Edited on Sat Jul-03-04 01:00 PM by Joanne98
I am in need of people to wear t-shirts and hand out candy and literature in the Pottery Festival parade on July 10th in Roseville. The 2 candidates that currently need representation are Kara Anastasio, 7th District U.S. Congress candidate and Eric Fingerhut, U.S. Senate candidate. Kara will be riding in a silver convertible in the parade and we need a minimum of 4 people with her t-shirts (2 to pass out candy and 2 to pass out literature). It would be nice to have a least 4 people for Fingerhut's campaign as well we will have candy and literature to pass out.

If anyone is able to attend any of the July 4th festivities and pass out literature for either candidate PLEASE let me know.

WE MUST get these people elected in November!
Volunteers can be either adults, teenagers or children.
Please e-mail me or call me and let me know specifically what you can do to help.
Thanks,
Corlyn Altier
