First sign of true discontent in my sleepy, redneck, rural Oregon town!
THE TIDES HAVE TURNED!!!!

On my way to work this morning I noticed this half page poster stapled to a power pole near a busy intersection (at least for here it's busy, more than 20 cars per hour :P ) and as usual was slightly late for work so I didn't get a chance to see what it said, but I thought I made out the word IMPEACH. I came back armed with a camera at lunch and wow did this make my heart sing! The wind has bent over one corner, but it says IMPEACH and under that VOTE DEMOCRAT 2006 (Nov 7)

WOOOOHOOOOOOOOO! This is the absolutely first time in this backwoods part of Oregon that I have witnessed anything like this! I am choosing to take it as a sign of the times, the sign of the change in attitude in rural America. My state may be blue, but the area I live in is pretty red. I had a Kerry/Edwards sign in my lawn in 2004 and got some serious disapproval from people around town along with coworkers. I was one of maybe 3 of us in the entire town of 5,000 people with a Kerry sign. Seeing this little paper really made my day! I wish I knew who put it up, I would give them a giant :pals: right now!!

(sorry if image is large)

WOOOOT!! WOOOOOOT!!!! :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

3. Central
actually. Madras. Despite our ethnically diverse population, the county/community really leans right. I really do hope things are moving left!

6. Yes! We just spent Spring Break in Sparks, Nevada
and drove through there. Just south of Paisley we were cruising along and a MASSIVE red-tailed hawk swooped over the road, paused right in front of us and slammed into the grill! His wing came up over the hood and I was screaming for my hubby to stop! stop! As soon as we got below 5mph he dropped to the pavement. Dead. It was very upsetting. Such a beautiful creature, and he was probably just out hunting when our truck got in his way. South Central Oregon is notorious for wildlife in the road, so be careful when you wander that way! There was one spot where little groundchucks were raising from one side of the road to the other, like one every 10 feet. There were bodies everywhere. Breaks my heart!

2. I encountered the very opposite yesterday
My son is in baseball and I was talking with the coach's wife during practice. She is Jewish and is very r-wing. She was all in favor of Clinton's impeachment because of what he did in "our" White House and how he humiliated Hillary. However, she doesn't believe Bush has done anything wrong regarding lying us into war. She said, "The ends justify the means." I was stunned.
Hard to understand that line of thinking and I went home feeling very sick.

4. As long as it doesn't affect her or hers
she will continue not to care. I hate people like that. You're better off trying to teach astrophysics to a slug!

7. I'm in the same region,
and I've seen more people than I expected turning away from Bush. I've been really surprised. Of course, there are plenty of diehards who will spew the same old propaganda forever, but for the rest, the tides are turning.
