1. Since it might get up to 90 again...
...how about some place with air conditioning? Or at least decent shade?

2. good thinkin'
The Lab and Goose Hollow have good shade, not much breeze access at the Lab though. :( And we should stay away from downtown, it's gonna be nuts with the Tourists...

3. I'm gonna have to miss this one
I'm bummed :(

I got sufficiently ripped for two meet-ups last time, so I guess it's only fair...

5. FreedRadical weighing in by phone...
He has to work, but wants to come.

Suggests avoiding downtown and hopes for something in NE or SW (easy to get to after work)

:)

6. Should we put it off 'til next week?
That would give everyone more time to get their schedules in order and decide where to go. Whaddya think?

7. we could
but I'm willing to give it a few hours and see if anyone else chimes in. I don't have anything else planned for this evening. :)

Are you still up for the Deck building? I've got ideas rattling around in my head...

8. Shall we have a noon or 1pm cut-off?
I don't have anything planned for tonight, either, but it does seem silly to have a group meeting that only two of us can attend! LOL

As far as the deck goes, yeah, I'm still up for it. Although I've got a bar-buddy showing up later today to give me an estimate. He's a contractor, so he can get a pretty good discount on all the materials, so it might not be much more expensive than doing it myself. Figured I'd at least look into it.

9. 1pm sounds good
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 01:38 PM by Viva_La_Revolution
that'll give me time for a nap and a shower. :)

I love lazy weekends!

Always a good idea to look at every option. I'm curious to find out what he quotes you, and the options that are out there. I ran across this very cool stuff the other day...

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100357102&N=10000003+90401+500823+2627&marketID=401&locStoreNum=8125

it goes right on cement pads or old decking like big wooden tiles.

Have you tried the deck designer at Lowes.com? I'm playing with it now. very cool.

on edit: I forgot to tell you! Ya wanna know what the first project I did right after our last meet up was? A deck. lol! Well, actually a deck rebuild. 30 years old, and the stairs rotted out. The original design was very cool, with matching benches and flowerboxes.

:) I'm so jealous. Someday I will have a house to work on too.

10. Love Lowe's deck designer!
So Crazy George was just here, and it looks as if he can get all the materials for about $1800, and he'll charge me between $500 and $700 to do the work—which includes most of the demo and dealing with the screwed up roof/eave! I'm happy to let him do that part, because I was pretty worried about doing it myself.

I've decided to go with Trex for the base, but use cedar for the railing. The composite railing systems are all very expensive, and they don't look all that great once you've got them in. The boards themselves look like real wood, but the railing definitely looks plastic.

So we've only got an hour to go. Anyone else out there who can meet up today?

11. I'm thinking next week is better
oh well.

So, we need to change the plan from "Meet-up and build RR a new deck" to "Party on RR's new deck!" LOL!

I would so like to meet Crazy George! I have learned so much from old-timers. :)

12. That's what I get for sleeping half the day away.
Next week is good, but if you're bored give me a call.

Everybody but me is feeling the heat, even Cyryll seems unable to do anything but drip (Greyhound nose syndrome). We went out into the yard and he took about 4 steps and wanted to go back inside.

It was a very long short week.

So, is this Rose Festival thingy fun?:bounce:

13. If anyone wants to meet unofficially...
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 02:49 PM by Reader Rabbit
...there is an international soccer match on at 5pm, so I was going to try to find a decent sports bar to watch it.

And I will definitely be having a deck-warming party once it's up! Crazy George will be the guest of honor, but if you really want to meet him, he's at Mickey Finn's every Wednesday for Pint Night—as am I! :P

15. U. S. vs. China
It's on ESPN2, so any sports bar would have it, but it's always more fun to go to a dedicated soccer bar.

16. Thanks where are you going? I'm on my own if I go out today and none the sports
bars around here (that I know of) are of the football persuasion.

17. Probably just down the street
I'm feeling really lazy after an afternoon of yardwork. My local is Mickey Finn's on SE Woodstock and 44th.
