HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say a pregnant woman who was found dead in a crawl space of a suburban home had been cut open and her baby delivered from her womb.
The Washington County sheriff's office said Monday that it couldn't be determined if the infant son of 21-year-old Heather Snively died before or after he was removed from the womb.

Korena Elaine Roberts, 27, was to be arraigned Monday on a murder charge in Snively's death.
A medical examiner said Monday that Snively had died of "blunt force" and "sharp force" injuries.

Police said they found Snively's body Friday in a crawl space in Roberts' home in Beaverton, a Portland suburb.

Roberts told officers she'd recently given birth to the baby boy, said Sgt. David Thompson of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and both were taken to a hospital. Doctors could not save the baby, and they alerted authorities after determining Roberts had not given birth.

2. Damn that brings back bad memories
We tended to a woman at a building collapse. We could not save her. The Resident who came to that call to assist, delivered the baby by C-Section right there.

The difference is the baby did live.

and frighteningly mirrors the Missouri case in late 2004:

Odd that outside the Northwest and the victim's former home in Maryland, that there hasn't been that much coverage.

10. This part is somewhat political
though it wasn't cited in this post.

Snively's mother, Heidi Kidd of St. Albans, W.Va., said Snively met Roberts a few weeks ago through Craigslist, the online classified service. Roberts told Snively she was pregnant and wanted baby clothes, Kidd said. They befriended one another and kept talking online.

Tocque Deville makes a http://dailytocque.com/?p=466">strong case that all these Craigslist crime stories elevated to the top of the charts lately are not accidental.

So now it’s war. Just last week at the private executives meeting of the American Press Institute, the theme was get craigslist. Here’s the roundup from Poynter’s Rick Edmonds in an article titled, “API to Summit: Newspapers Should Mount a Unified Challenge to Craigslist”:

The main event at the private executives’ meeting a week ago in Chicago was discussion of paid online content, and the American Press Institute contributed a white paper strongly endorsing several versions of that strategy. API also offered a second recommendation and a second white paper, arguing that the industry should mobilize “to prevent further revenue erosion” of classifieds.

The target of the effort would be Craigslist, whose mostly free listings have contributed to the disastrous dive of what used to be the industry’s most lucrative revenue source. The white paper suggests that with “a powerful unified national brand” on a common platform, newspapers could take back some of that business.

As the image below demonstrates, however, newspaper executives already had craigslist in their sites. This is a Google News snapshot of the returns for the search term “craigslist” from articles posted in the last 30 days:

Read it yourself. The newspaper business and their patrons in the broader corporate media are definitely pumping stories to try to make Craigslist look bad. The one cited here is no exception.

15. Craigs list helped me get the place I moved to last year here in Portland...
It all depends on how its being used. I'm sure they're trying to find one more excuse to shut it down though given the prostitution and other crap that has been happening with that (I'm thinking of that other recent murder from that area).

Edited on Tue Jun-09-09 03:16 AM by depakid
For the gruesome- there will be more coming out in the next several days- including something that may well incite the fundies. Crossing my fingers on that (even though either way, it won't be a good outcome).
