What exactly happened yesterday in OR re health care "reform" in the state senate?
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 11:41 AM by warren pease
I've been a little out of it for the past six months (health reasons, ironically enough) so I'm not sure what happened in Salem yesterday.

I got this note from OSPIRG today but, because I haven't been paying sufficient attention, and because the note is a little light on details, I'm clueless.

So while Harvey claims a huge victory, I don't know what we won.

Can anyone explain?

Thanks a lot,

sf

OSPIRG's email follows...

Hi Steven,

We did it!

Yesterday, the country's strongest effort to tackle out-of-control health care costs passed the Oregon Senate. The bill now heads to Gov. Kulongoski's desk, and he's already promised to sign it into law.

I am so proud to be an Oregonian today. Our state just became the country's pioneer at cutting health care costs, decisively repudiating the opponents of national health care reform.

You made the difference.

Over the last three months, you sent over 3,000 e-mails to state officials. You told heartbreaking and infuriating stories of how unnecessary red tape, perverse incentives, and unfettered greed in the health care system have impacted your lives. Legislators told us repeatedly that they read your messages, and that your voices had an impact.

You can find more details about the bill on the OSPIRG blog. And look for an e-mail from us next week about how you can help us ensure that our victory here in Oregon advances the struggle for real national reform. (There's no time to waste!)

Thanks again for making it happen.

Sincerely,

David Rosenfeld

1. 2 big bills passed
HB 2116 and HB 2009. They go to the Senate and are expected to pass this coming week.
