North Huntingdon (Westmoreland County) may lose its library due to Idiots
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07067/767562-56.stm

This tax referendum will result in a loss of approximately 80% of our library's funding.

Why is this referendum being pushed? Because the people behind it are all morons.

Here are the reaons us locals are aware of.

1. Some folks in Irwin are upset that the new library wasn't built in Irwin. Problem is that there wasn't enough land in Irwin and Irwin Council hasn't had a really good reputation working with people to do anything constructive. Past Irwin councils have fought building parks for kids...to give you an idea.

2. People are greedy. The $30-45 a year in taxes it takes per household to fund this brand new library is money they want back in their pockets to buy more lottery tickets.

3. Some of the folks behind this initiative don't think the library should have computers or teach elderly folks computer classes. "that's not what a library is for.."

I am very ashamed of my community for even having something like this on the ballot.

If you want to help to save our libary please contact the library.

1. Ugh. That's part of the small-town, regressive mentality that so
aggravates me around here. I don't know if this is unique to our region, but I've seen this in various small towns that I've lived in and it is very irritating. Good luck - hard to imagine people being against a library!

2. I have to say that the kind of people who are against a library are a
truly special sort of stupid....

I am so infuriated that it is hard for me not to just start screaming..

3. I think it was your comment about not using a library to teach old
people to use computers that just strikes me as so typical of this area - such a bunch of backward hicks!

Regarding the $35-40 in taxes annually: my mother is on a fixed income (I know because she tells me everytime she sees me!) and she is an avid reader. If this were an issue where she lives, any additional money a new library may cost her in taxes would be more than made up for by the number of books she borrows from the library each year. This is one thing she would gladly cough up the additional money for.

4. Our library does so much ...
books
computers
reading groups for kids
chess club
movie nights
movies available to borrow...

all kinds of things to get kids interested in reading and adults as well.

I am so worked up over this I can't see straight.
