DC Voting rights - PA DEM reps voted no

http://dcdl.org/2007/04/19/house-passes-dc-voting-rights-act
What is it with Pennsylvanians?
6 Democrats voted against the legislation:

* Dan Boren (OK)
* Nancy Boyda (KS)
* Christopher P. Carney (PA)
* Tim Holden (PA)
* Paul E. Kanjorski (PA)
* Gene Taylor (MS)

So disappointed in Carney for this vote - anyone know why he voted against it?

1. Because he dosen't believe DC should have full voting rights
Because there not actually a state? Who knows? E-mail or call Carney, Holden and Kanjorski and ask they'll probally be happy to explain there actions to the electorate, they got nothing to hide.

2. not so easy
I actually talked to Carney rep in our area (Bradford)Saturday night - he did not know why Carney voted against it -
this concerns me because it has overwhelming support with Dems- even some Repubs - the constitutional argument doesn't hold water today imho
a vote against representation is a mistake

3. The pugs are playing with this
everytime it comes up there is a condition. I think before it was another house seat for Utah and lately it was repeal of gun restrictions in DC. There are reasons.

4. Carney is not on the bill for Voter-Verified Paper Ballots, either...
Edited on Fri Apr-27-07 10:30 AM by Yellow Horse

HR 811.

This bill that is MUCH needed to protect the accuracy of our vote. But Carney's one of only two PA Dems who are not a co-sponsor. The other one is Sestak.

Even the GOPs English, Tim Murphy, and Gerlach are co-sponsoring HR 811 and standing up for the right of every Pennsylvanian to have his or her vote counted accurately as cast.

But not Carney and Sestak.

5. wonder why?
I know that Carney is quite a bit right of where I stand on things - he wouldn't have won in this area if he wasn't - so I am not surprised when he leans that way on certain issues
what surprises me is when he stands alone on seemingly no brainers
will try to find out why

7. Carney HAS JOINED THE CO-SPONSORS of HR 811 (5/1/07)
The only Dem not on this bill now is Sestak.

6. Not Murphy, Not Schwartz
I'm happy

Although we should go through the process of making DC a state. It gets the Republicans to shut up, and it locks two Democratic Senate seats. If we move for DC statehood, the only logical arguments that Republicans could make in opposition is the DCers shouldn't vote.
