Here's the archived thread about the massive Harrisburg rally Friday night. 25,000-30,000 people, according to the Secret Service.

Unbelievable night!!!

1. "The Kerry campaign needs better advance work"
Ticket problems anger some who wanted to see rally

Doug Van Dyke, Christine Altmiller and her daughter, Anna Altmiller, stood in the white-ticket line at Linden Street and North Washington Avenue and waited to go nowhere.

YOUR TAKE
The Kerry-Edwards campaign bypassed Wilkes-Barre for Scranton. Will that affect your vote?

"Well, he's not getting my vote. That's for sure. A rich man doesn't understand a poor man's needs. (...) He's a man that speaks with two tongues."

Mary Ann Pieszala, 64, Pittston

"I don't think so."

Mike Williamson, 47, Wilkes-Barre

"It wouldn't affect my vote."

Donna Williamson, Wilkes-Barre

"It's not going to affect mine."

Colleen Reilly, 22, Luzerne

3. I worked the rally in Greensburg and it was great.
Everyone was totally excited...and there were tons of young people eager to help!

4. I was frustrated at the Harrisburg rally
they made the white ticket people stand in a shanty forest where trees and elite ticket holders blocked any good view of the speakers.

Plus when I tried to leave there was no Kerry volunteer to help me find out how to get back to my car via, shuttle bus. The lack of planning was evident. I know they aren't paid but it was a nightmare of an experience.

5. shuttle buses
I was a volunteer escorting shuttle bus riders. The volunteer on your incoming bus should have told you to go to exactly where you got off when the rally was over. As I was leaving the rally, I did see someone on that corner saying, "Shuttle bus riders, the bus is over here ."

We SB volunteers were told we wouldn't be needed for the return trip to the parking lot. I had my doubts about that at the time.

In retrospect, I think there should have been a large "SHUTTLE BUS" sign at the appropriate intersection.

6. on those elite tickets
I had a blue one, which meant I had to be scanned with a metal detector and my pocketbook dumped on the table to make sure I wasn't carrying I don't know what.

I don't know where I would have been sent with just the blue ticket--which I was given for spending three evenings outside the Midtown registering new voters and enlisting new volunteers, for writing RapidResponse for the last year, and for lots of other small and large contributions to the cause--but when we'd transported all the shuttle bus riders to the Capitol, those of us with the volunteer necklaces were sent to the third balcony, from which I could see the backs of little stick figures on the stage.

7. Thanks for the insight
It would have been a smoother operation with some clear signs but I'll def. get over it. Good for you putting in so much time to get Kerry in the WH!
