Kind of interesting that this is from the San Jose Mercury News-

Eddis said the union is backing Hoeffel because of the three-term congressman's support of an assault weapons ban and funding for community policing. Specter noted he also has voted to ban assault weapons and put more police on the streets. But as recently as March, he opposed a Senate amendment to extend the ban for another decade.
The FOP endorsed Hoeffel's past House campaigns. Neither Specter nor Eddis could immediately remember if the union backed the senator when he last ran for re-election in 1998. Specter campaign manager Christopher Nicholas said the senator did win the FOP backing in 1992.
Eddis said he is a "little surprised" that Specter still wants to meet with him. "I've been waiting for all week for the senator to call up and cancel as a result of not getting our endorsement," Eddis said, adding that Specter asked for the meeting "after he knew we weren't endorsing him."
"We're not going to be changing our endorsement," Eddis said.
