KDKA drops Rush!
From FMQB.com:
--------------------------------------------

August 13, 2004

Legendary News/Talk station KDKA/Pittsburgh announced today that it has cancelled The Rush Limbaugh Show and will replace it with The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly, starting November 15. O'Reilly's program, syndicated by Westwood One, will be carried live on KDKA, weekdays from noon-2pm.

KDKA is owned by Westwood One sister Infinity Broadcasting. Limbaugh's show is distributed by Clear Channel-owned Premiere Radio Networks.

Infinity SVP and Pittsburgh Market Manager Michael Young said in a statement, "We have been carefully following Bill's radio show for some time, especially in major markets where his program is on with strong radio stations. The show has done very well in those situations, and we are confident the strength of KDKA and the compelling content of The O'Reilly Factor will make an excellent fit."

----------------------------------------------

While trading Rush for Billo might seem like a wash, remember that Bill is actually to the left of most of the hate radio gasbags (its what gives him the cred with the Fox viewers that he's "balanced") and it gets Rush off one of the most powerful stations in the US.

I wonder, if this means Billo will be off WPTT and if they'll replace his show with someone like John McIntire.

There's very little difference between the two. Very little.

4. Actually there is
O'Reilly, while obviously conservative, will actually critique Bushco once in a while. He was outraged that Rush tried to play the Iraq prisoner abuse off as frat boy hazing.

Actually, when pressed by callers to chastize right wing "bomb throwers" like he does to the left, Rush's name is always mentioned.

It's certainly not liberal talk radio, but it's a big improvement over Rush.

6. I have been listening to El Drugbo off and on for 10 years...
I would rather that he remain on top. His peak came and went with the Monica scandal. And it has been downhill ever since. With the divorce and drug outing, things aren't going well and he is confused and incohesive. I would rather he remain on top and what follow with the likes of Savage only gets worse...

Now they have to dump Fred H that big fat gassbag.

I think O'liely will self destruct in short order. Who knows, KD may have to start broadcasting AAR to get maket share.

10. I sent an email to WPTT
and you should too. Ask them to fill the slot with a liberal show to balance all the cookie cutter conservative crap out there.

11. God, I Miss Art Pallan
I remember before I left Pittsburgh, Art Pallan was Mr Nice Guy, always soothing to listen to. You'd be pissed off when you turn the radio on and then you would hear Art and the heartburn would go away.

That was 1981.

I came back to PA in 2002 when my dad passed away. Sure would love to hear Art, I put on KDKA and it's the asshole Pigboy.

Does anyone know if Art is still around, or did he pass away?

13. Correct me if I'm wrong - but I thought O' Reilly ratings sucked

on radio? Hannity is the hot commodity but a local FM station has him.

Still good news he'll be off WPTT, I just hope WPTT is smart enough to employ John McIntire or to pick up a 2 hour slot of AAR. Of course they may move Uncle Dougie (who unfortunately has turned somewhat RW) up to come on after Lynn, especially since on low wattage WPTT his last hour of show gets lost in the airwaves during the winter when they have to low power when it gets dark outside.

I hope they keep Uncle Dougie where he is and pick up either McIntire or AAR.

I sent them an email a couple of weeks ago telling them to drop O' Really for this. Guess another email will be on its way. I also sent Lynn a copy of Portland's ratings for AAR and Ed Schultz and suggested she pass them on to the PTB.

And I can't wait to pass this on to a ditto head at work today. Course he also likes Hannity - Ugh!

Sam:
Thank you for your message. We are currently lookin at our options and
we'll be making an announcement on our plans within the next couple of
weeks. I appreciate your comments. Please keep listening.

John Poister
WPTT Program Director

Let him know what you want to hear. I know Lynn's probably going to lobby hard for Johnny Mac, and Doug might too (Doug's a libertarian who hates Bush btw).

16. I haven't listened much to Doug since he went to the darkside
He really supported the war and I was disappointed an intelligent guy like him couldn't see through the lies. I thought he was way to kind to *. Also his Doug and the group Friday shows seemed to be mostly Repubs that had me screaming at the radio in the car.

I know he started in the spring to see that this war was a mistake. Is he all the way back yet?

And I thought he was way over the top with Lynn during the blabathon - worse than Jerry(St. Patricks day?) in criticizing liberal views. I know he hurt her feelings on the air, but to his credit did end up apologizing afterwards profusely.

After Lynn I usually end up listening to AAR via the net if I'm at work.

He's certainly turned on Bush but he isn't 100% sold on Kerry.

He has said a couple times that right now his vote would go to Kerry, usually he votes for the Libertarian person.

14. Rush is jumping ship over to WPGB FM
That station will be unlistenable - Yuck! And guess the idiots at KDKA don't know how to counter-program. O' Reilly is a ratings loser - why don't they try going liberal or progressive? Now I hope WPTT is smarter.

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/kqvradio/s_208194.html

It's a shot heard round the dial: Conservative kingpin Rush Limbaugh is sliding to FM in a shuffle of afternoon yakkers that costs KDKA the nation's top-rated talk show.

Starting Nov. 15, Limbaugh's show will air from noon to 3 p.m. weekdays on WPGB-FM 104.7, the new talk station in town. He has anchored the same slot for KDKA-AM 1020 for more than a decade. Limbaugh will be replaced on KDKA by the syndicated show of Bill O'Reilly, lead bully on the Fox News Channel, officials with the station said Friday.
