Specter will support Sestak and the Dem agenda; it's time to work together
In his speech last night, Joe Sestak acknowledged the good Specter has done for PA. I would ask my fellow Sestak supporters to show the same class as Joe did.

(for those who didn't see that, here's part 1 of the full speech, and I think the praise for Specter starts about 6:25: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53-e16RfehI )

We will need ALL Dem voters to support Joe in defeating Toomey. We (Sestak supporters) got what we wanted yesterday: we defeated the Rendell machine and delivered victory for the person we believed to be the better choice. Let's now try to be a little gracious and not keep beating up on Specter or his supporters - if we are all supporting the same result in November - defeat for Toomey - let's acknowledge the positives and work together.

1. Oh please, Sestak supporters are going to blow Specter off.
Afer all the BS about him needing a cane and him being senile or having a stroke, they are not going to show any class now and support Sestak. And, as for me, I told you I would never support him, because he screwed over the party. I can not support a man I considered a turncoat and opportunist. I was re-elected as a committee person yesterday and I resigned today. I will not tow the party line for Sestak.
And, as I understand it, Specter won Philly. Rendell's machine, as you call it doesn't extended to the parts of the state that your guy won in. The people in SW PA hate Rendell. Actually, they hate anything associated with Philly.

4. Ah Wisteria! Your phraseology never fails to amuse!
You, Madam, are the veritable Mrs. Malaprop of undercover operatives.

It's not "tow the line", it's "toe the line" - look the expression up - very interesting origin. Wait, I looked it up for you, knowing how you brushed off any demand that you research your uncited, undocumentd, distorted version of the facts.

"Toe the line" is an idiomatic expression meaning to conform to a rule or a standard.

The term has disputed origins. Perhaps its longest-running use is from the British House of Commons where sword-strapped members were instructed to stand behind lines that were better than a sword’s length from their political rivals in order to restore decorum.

In days of sail, "toe the line" was used as a command for the sailors to line up along a crack in deck planking, similar to the modern "Attention!" Over the years the term has been attributed to sports, including toeing the starting line in track events and toeing a center line in boxing which boxers were instructed to line up on either side of to start a match.

In modern usage, it appears often in the context of partisan or factional politics, as in, "He's toeing the party line."

The term is still used literally by active and reserve components of the U.S. Army. Soldiers in a training status (e.g., Basic Training; Advanced Individual Training; Warrant Officer Candidate School; Officer Candidate School) may have two solid lines, each approximately three inches wide and placed five feet apart, either taped or painted, running down the center of the entire length of their barracks' floor. Instructors enter the barracks without warning and shout, "Toe the line!" At this command, soldiers immediately cease activities and rush to the closest line. Standing abreast of each other, each soldier looks down to ensure that his/her toes are on the line. Once a soldier achieves this, he/she then assumes the position of attention. The two lines create a five-foot-wide walkway down the center of the barracks. The instructor uses this walkway to pace up and down while addressing or inspecting the trainees. Toeing the line is used only in high-stress training environments.

The expression is also often equated to the one "toe the mark."

*******************************************************************

And re your remark in another of your anti-Sestak rants, about something being "water under the damn", the correct expression is either "water under the bridge" or "water over the dam." "Damn" is a curse word; "dam" is a barrier.

Learning can be a lifelong process.

Delighted to hear you resigned your committee post (if you ever had one) and are leaving the party. Had Specter won the primary, I would have not publicly said a word against him, and would have voted for him. Every election demands a choice from a responsible citizen. Our choice may be between two qualified people, or at the other end of the spectrum, between the lesser of two evils. It's easy to do our duty and vote when we are enthused about a candidate (as I am about Sestak); the test of a responsible citizen is if they vote when the best they hope to achieve is to minimize damage (as I would have been about Specter).

5. So sorry about my phrasing. I go on memory and phasing is well... just phrasing.
Edited on Fri May-21-10 06:31 PM by wisteria
I take the time to research what is important to me. I am a busy person attending college for the second time around. And, yes, I was a committee person,in Westmoreland County. The hub of guns, bibles and rebel flags. I was reelected, but am awaiting my papers to resign. So, don't accuse me of lying. I had no reason to do so, I didn't have to mention it at all to make my point. And, not that I give a dam, oops sorry, DAMN about what you think of my spelling or typos, you can rest assured they have nothing to do with my intelligence or my education level-which I assure you is more than adequate to converse on this blog- especially, since the word du jour on DU is usually F this or F that. Do you go around trying to insinuate inferiority in all people who spell a word or two incorrectly or use improper phasing? Or is that reserved for people like me, who don't agree with you? That is the trouble with some Progressives, they think they are superior to others and they are the only people who are right. This election has made it crystal clear to me, that while I support some progressive ideals, I also support some conservative ideals too. And, I have discovered that I prefer people working together and reaching a consensus rather than being a part of partisan tug of war. So, I will be listening to both sides during the election and deciding if either one of their candidates is worth of my vote. And, you can be sure that when, and if I do vote it will be for the man-not the party. I feel free now, because I do not have be a hypocrite and work for, and support a candidate I did not like in the primaries.
And, I am still trying to break the DU habit, so if this former Progressive posts now and again, I apologize in advance. I find it difficult to break away entirely immediately.

3. All I can say is Sestak better not have any skeletons in his closet,
he'd better start paying the people who dedicate their time and effort to him minimum wage, he'd better BEAT Toomey in November, and he'd better to a damn good job as our Senator and hopefully convince me that he's not the opportunistic phony that I currently see him as. If we end up with that far right lunatic that makes an average tea bagger look like a Harvard graduate because of Sestak I will not forget or forgive him anytime soon.

With that said, good luck, Joe.
