Beasley's last flip-flop (endorses Demint)

SCDP Chair Joe Erwin issued the following statement on David Beasley’s expected endorsement of Jim DeMint today.

“David Beasley was right about Jim DeMint,” Erwin said. “He’s become an out-of-touch insider who has sent our jobs overseas and put Washington ahead of South Carolina."

Even though Beasley is endorsing Jim DeMint today, just weeks ago he was shining a light on the real DeMint record.

BEASLEY ON DEMINT

“He has voted for policies that have sent our jobs to China. David Beasley said while debating DeMint during the runoff. WIS TV Debate Transcript, 6/15/04

“It’s because you have not stood up with the rest of our congressional delegation to fight for South Carolina jobs,” Beasley said to DeMint. “We have unfair foreign trade taking place.” Associated Press, 6/21/04

“Politicians like Jim are sitting back, letting it happen, sticking their head in the sand, acting like nothings going wrong.” Beasley to DeMint WVOC Radio Debate, 6/21/04

“DeMint’s theories sound appealing, but growth from trade deals with new markets doesn’t help us if our new trading partners cheat on those deals. The fact is Jim DeMint has consistently voted for unfair trade in the false name of free trade.” The State, 6/20/04

“If we can’t trust Jim DeMint to keep his word about his own campaign, we have to be concerned about whether Jim DeMint would do what he’s promised to do in the Senate,” said Carroll Campbell III, Beasley’s campaign chairman. Associated Press, 6/13/04

“We had a major tax cut package on the floor of the United States tax, and Jim missed that vote which provided literally billions of dollars of tax cuts for industry all across America, and Jim missed that vote,” Beasley said during a WORD Radio debate with DeMint. WORD Radio Debate Transcript, 6/17/04

“Those nice ideas aren’t worth diddly squat if you don’t vote,” Beasley said. The State, 6/21/04

“I think Washington has truly changed Jim,” WORD Radio Debate Transcript, 6/17/04
