TENENBAUM PICKS UP BACKING OF “MAYORS FOR INEZ”
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- U.S. Senate candidate Inez Tenenbaum today picked up the endorsement of more than 40 mayors from across South Carolina, unveiling a “Mayors for Inez” group and vowing to be a voice for the state’s communities in the Senate.
“South Carolina’s cities and towns need more help from the top, and when I get to Washington I will be a voice for you, your communities, and the families across our state,” Tenenbaum said.
Rock Hill Mayor Doug Echols and Greenwood Mayor Floyd Nicholson were announced today as co-chairs of Mayors for Inez, and Charleston Mayor Joe Riley introduced Tenenbaum. Speaking at the Municipal Association of South Carolina convention here, Tenenbaum said she would fight to maintain vital federal support for towns, such as the COPS anti-crime program and funds for highway construction.
“I want to be a Senator who represents South Carolina in Washington -- not represent Washington in South Carolina,” Tenenbaum said. “And that means standing up and fighting for our cities, our towns, and our fair share.”
Echols said, “Inez is committed to being a champion for South Carolina cities in Washington. She has taken the time to come to our towns, hear our concerns, and see the real impact that federal policies have on our communities.”
“When Inez gets to Washington, South Carolina’s cities and towns will have a friend in the Senate,” Nicholson said. “We know her door will always be open if our state’s mayors have a concern.”
Columbia Mayor Bob Coble said, "She is far more interested in improving the lives of South Carolinians than she is in any partisan political games, and I know that when she gets to the Senate she will roll up her sleeves and get to work for us."
