What is the process for applying for an absentee ballot in South Carolina?
I met a guy at the grocery store tonight here in Pennsylvania who is from the Emerald Forest are of South Carolina. He only goes home on the weekends so he will actually be here in PA when the voting starts.

He is a naturalized citizen and is a bit unfamiliar with the methods of absentee balloting...so if one of you would kindly help me to help him out...we got one more vote in South Carolina for Kerry.

It was so wild..he showed me his voter registration card and gave me two of his business cards in the hope that I would help him out...I gave him one of my Kerry pins as well..

1. Maybe this will help
How do I request an absentee ballot application?

In person, by phone (except authorized representatives), by mail, or by contacting your county voter registration office in the county in which you are registered. For a complete listing of your county offices and contact information click on this link.

3. Tell him not to hold his breath
I called for an absentee ballot in July. Called again in Sept. when it had never shown up. Got told they never had that request. Called about a week ago because it still isn't here. Told, this time, that it had been sent out in Aug. and now it's too late to send another one.

Even though that's not what the website says.

Tell him to go IN PERSON, not to rely on the phone. I plan to one day this week and see what they tell me then.
