GOP State Treasurer candidate Vance Cheek, Jr. Uses "Godfather" Blog Icon For Self
Edited on Thu Jan-01-09 02:05 PM by doeriver

Vance Cheek, Jr. of Johnson City was pretty quick to remove some of the pages from his online blog PENSIERI at http://conservatore.blogspot.com , but the GOP candidate for the office of State of Tennessee Treasurer left enough material scattered online that he probably doesn't want most Tennesseans to be aware:

* miscalled the state, national economy (2006): "I want to reinstate President Reagan's economic policy. The ups and downs of the National Economy shouldn't affect Upper East Tennessee as we have all the elements to insure our autonomy";

* following the Tennessee Republican Party m.o., Cheek must have thought that he had deleted most of his bog comments from committee and public review (but left his blogspot.com profile intact);

* Cheek chose image file of Marland Brando from the movie "The Godfather" as an icon to represent himself at blogspot.com, also cites "The Godfather" as being his favorite movie;

* subject of a long-running oppostion research/anti-candidate blog;

* blog artilce stating a refusal to work with liberals.

Some of his fellow GOPer bloggers have some pretty nice things to say about Cheek's blog:

The Blogging Treasurer

Vance informs The World that his blogging was never mentioned before or after the hearing and interview process. I suspected that it may not be, since Vance's blogging was always infrequent and was pretty much a party-line blog, and from a Tennessee political point of view, it was rather innocuous...

Yes, rather innocuous Oatney, if you consider a fascination with the motion picture "The Godfather by a candidate for appointed public office to be innocuous...I read "The Godfather" while in high school and have watched the moive a couple of times during the folowing decades, but I can think of many, many more favorite movies that I would categorize as a favorite rather than a 1970s flick about the inner workings of an organized crime family...

Smart guy, that Vance Cheek, Jr....he followed Tennessee State Senator-elect Mike Faulk'e blogging lead and deleted all of the posts at his blog before appearing before a state selection committee of seven TNGA House GOPers (Cheek must have wanted to hang onto the blog just in case that the State of Tennessee Treasurer gig doesn't pan out) but forgot all about his Blogspot profile page...oops!:

A blogger since 2005, Vance Cheek is an attorney and retired judge, but he is probably best known as being Catie's daddy or Jody's husband.

This blog focuses on a variety of political issues, without being overly political.

Most of all, Vance uses his blog to share some behind-the-scenes info and points of view about topics that are currently in the news.

Many of the people and issues that he writes become even more interesting when you read about the personal experience he has had with that person or regarding that issue in the past.

Vance Cheek Kicks it into Gear
Our friend Conservatore ends his Blog and begins his Campaign to replace Bill Jenkins:

From his website:

The End Has Come

This Author has enjoyed posting thoughts, opinions, and "gotchas" since July 2005. Given the great Congressman Bill Jenkins' retirement today, Conservatore begins the difficult task of following him. This will be a definite struggle; but, it is one for which the Author is ready. On my campaign site, I will continue Pensieri; however, I will not be as controversial as I have been.

I've enjoyed writing things that would get me posted in other blogs. I've enjoyed stirring the pot. Stirring trouble in the Blogsphere is one thing. Being a legitimate candidate and expressing one's true views is another. I am an honest man and I will let you know how I feel. This is no longer entertainment; it's setting a course in America for our children.

I will represent all fundamental Republican principles: A strong belief in the Second Amendment, I strong belief in Right to Life (based on the fact that I have a brittle bone condition that would make me one of the "expendable" one if not for my wonderful parents), I believe in economic development and fiscal responsibility. I want to make East Tennessee strong.

I want to reinstate President Reagan's economic policy. The ups and downs of the National Economy shouldn't affect Upper East Tennessee as we have all the elements to insure our autonomy. I want to be the most accessible Congressman that is in office. I want to use the state of the art information to make my constituents comfortable with my representation. I want to lead every one in my district so each group betters themselves and each other. I want to build consensus. I want to show people that no matter what faces them in their lives, they can acheive something.

I am a consensus builder. I am a friend to the far right and the centrist. I am a fan of East Tennessee. This area has given me everything, including the support to overcome all obstacles - including death.

My parents were told not to take me home - not to name me - not to get attached. By God's guidance and my parents’ strength, I overcame it all. Not by my doing, but by the gifts given me.

I now offer myself in gratitude. I want to be the next First Congressional District Representative. Win or lose, I must offer myself. With all that has been given to me, I must return the favor.

I ask for your prayers, your thoughts, your support and your vote. I am Vance W. Cheek, Jr. and I want to represent the First Congressional District in the US Congress.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me at VanceCheek@Yahoo.com. A web site will be forthcoming very quickly.

We are in this to win this. I invite you along. I can't do it without you.

See you on the other side, my Friends.

Con rispetto,

Conservatore Dall'est
