BLOUNTVILLE — Less than three weeks after announcing it would hire 50 new employees, Right Way Marketing laid off virtually its entire staff on Friday. But owner Timothy Hill said Wednesday the call center is still in business.

“We hired a tremendous amount of workers based on our client needs, and then our client needs changed, and they changed quite drastically,” Hill said.

Right Way Marketing offers inbound customer service, order taking, political calling and outbound business-to-business sales, and has been in business for more than a year and a half. Last spring, the company relocated from Johnson City to the former Carolina Pottery outlet mall, 354 Shadowtown Road, Suite 205.

In mid-August, the company employed about 25 people and announced it needed another 50 workers “immediately.”

On Wednesday, Hill said the company’s client unexpectedly suspended its calling center needs.

KINGSPORT — Fifty new call center jobs are coming to Sullivan County, according to the owner of a company relocating from Johnson City to the former Carolina Pottery outlet mall.

Right Way Marketing LLC Friday cut the ribbon on a new facility at 354 Shadowtown Road, Suite 205, and announced the 50 new jobs.

“We’re excited and hopeful that this is just a start. We’re looking to grow more as the year progresses,” Right Way owner Timothy Hill said Friday.

Hill said he is a managing partner of the limited liability company that also includes two silent partners. He gathered at the ribbon cutting with Sullivan County Mayor Steve Godsey and Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips.

Godsey in a news release said he, NETWORKS – Sullivan Partnership and the city worked to relocate the business.

The new facility is near Sullivan Central High School, off Exit 66 of Interstate 81, but inside the city limits of Kingsport.

Hill said “very few” of the 50 jobs would be filled with existing employees, although most would be for agents and at entry level.

“It is seriously intended to be 50 new jobs,” Hill said. “The majority of the 50 jobs are working at entry level.”

However, Hill said some initial jobs would be for supervisors, and the plan is to expand the operation into divisions overseen with directors, with the opportunity to rise through the company.

“We are excited about the future of Right Way Marketing and Sullivan County,” Hill said in a news release.

“We are pleased to announce in this tough economy we have 50 jobs available for hire. The people of Right Way have made the difference, and I am honored that all of their hard work is paying off,” he said. “People all around our region are hurting financially. We are happy to do our part to help our local economy recover and grow.”

NETWORKS CEO <and former TNGA House Republican> Richard Venable and Director of Economic Development Jack Lawson said Right Way received a $10,000 forgivable loan from the Sullivan County Industrial Board. The loan will be forgiven if the business reaches the planned number of hires in a specified time.

Venable said at NETWORKS’ regular board meeting Thursday at Northeast State Community College that Right Way was too small to qualify for state incentives, and the local incentive — funded through the sale of industrial park sites — is a way to help smaller businesses and industries get started or expand.

Board member Irene Wells asked if NETWORKS could help market the old White’s Fresh Foods grocery store on U.S. Highway 11-E and the old Hurt’s grocery store in Bluff City. Venable said NETWORKS would put those properties on its Web site with the request of the owners.

NETWORKS is a joint economic development effort of Sullivan County, Kingsport, Bristol, Tenn., and Bluff City.
