Julian Castro - thoughts?
Got this from SaveTexasReps:

Help a Rising Democratic Star!

It's been a long time since Texas has produced a politician who could rightly be called a "rising star." This year's San Antonio Mayor's race has produced one candidate who is more than worthy of that title: 30-year old Julián Castro.

Julián has leaped to the front of a three-person field and is in an excellent position to win. When Julián wins, we will see the birth of a new Texas Democratic star. Please click here to learn more about Julián and his campaign: http://www.castroformayor.com/index.php.

If you're in San Antonio, I encourage you to volunteer for the campaign. If you're not, I encourage you strongly to contribute to his campaign. If you’re wondering why you should care about this race, I can only say that the Mayor of San Antonio immediately upon election becomes one of the most high profile officials in Texas and the Latino community. The last star to fill that office is Henry Cisneros who went on to serve in the Clinton administration and is still talked about as one of our best hopes for winning a statewide office.

With our help, Julián can take office with a dramatic win and launch himself onto a statewide, nationwide and worldwide stage. Please help Julián Castro; San Antonio needs vibrant new leadership and so do Texas Democrats.

thanks
Nathan Wilcox

Julian Castro: The future of the Democrats
by A.S. Medellin
San Antonio mayoral candidate Julian Castro is the type of leader Texas Democrats yearn for--young, well-schooled, pragmatic, and eloquent. Usually we are told by Democratic leaders that we shouldn't endorse between two Democrats, but let's face it: One of these guys has a future in politics, while the other one is an old dinosaur that will neither be effective, nor provide us with a gubernatorial or presidential candidate in the future. It is time that San Antonians and Texans take Julian seriously as one who will be a leader for Democrats after he finishes his four-year stint as Mayor.

3. Julian - First Place in Talent and Polls, Last Place in Cash
Julian is a good friend and an extremely talented guy. He's leading in the polls with good reason - he's distinguished himself in his two terms on the Council and has a compelling vision for the city.

The problem Julian has is the same that most young progressives face: money. He needs it. Big business is supporting his opponents. Incredibly, one opponent raised THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS in ONE NIGHT. That kind of cash buys a lot of TV.

Julian has the talent and popular support, he just needs resources. I am doing my part for him and I hope you will do the same. Check out www.castroformayor.com.

Thanks!
Bill Frick

5. He's got my provisional endorsement.
Conservation issues are my litmus tests. Castro is unequivocal in at least his campaign promises to continue on some of the more progressive paths that the city intermittently embarks on. Hardberger seems to like developers a great deal, and his statements on aquifer and open space issues explicitly refer to the "rights" and importance of landowners/developers. I put rights in quotes because of some local issues of interpretation of the grandfather clause that are pretty expansive.

I've got no horse in the race, and the mayoral race will probably be seen as nothing more than a human interest story, like most of the Castro twins' careers. I know very little of Hardberger, and his website said absolutely nothing specific about his views. I've met Castro, he speaks ok in that politician way of speaking, and I've never seen him screw up. He might have a statewide future.
