1. Fantastic job!
I was there and you captured all the elements and atmosphere. Thanks so much! I'm bookmarking this thread for future reminiscence of my first peace march (though I wasn't able to catch a glimpse of myself or my daughters in the video. :()

2. Thank you liveoaktx
Good video. I'm so glad we had a nice day for the march. By 4:30 of course it was pouring rain.

The imperial bu$h snake puppet was great. I believe that one made an appearance at the anti-inaugural event on Jan. 20th.

One thing I noticed about the police presence this time, they were more subdued. They still had hundreds of them for our own protection. Yeah right. A peace march, means a peace march Mr policeman. Usually the cops are so arrogant and tense, they just want to vent their anger at someone. So you have incidents like the taser incidents from 1/20, where a couple of kids got tasered for not moving fast enough and stepping off the sidewalk into the street for just a bit.

Having the speaker/rally part at city hall was a great idea. It has it's own video camera's to capture the street, so the police were on their best behavior. They don't control that video. I saw a lot of minor things they normally would go ballistic over. Might not have been good publicity to beat a few protesters with the Mayor Pro-Tem on the speaking bill.

By the way it was great of Jackie to mention that tasers were a problem. Lets hope that she tries to do something before she ends her term this May.

It was nice to meet eveyone out there.

Hi Longhorn & Trailrider!

3. My pics.
I attended with my three daughters, though one had to drop out because she brought her dog and he couldn't handle the excitement. Here are my photos:

Gathering at the plaza between the Federal building and the old post office:

Pre-march entertainment:

Veterans for Peace carried two flag-draped coffins, one American and one Iraqi, surrounded by a rope covered with 150 red strands of tape. Each strand corresponded to such statistics as ten killed American troops, etc.

Ready, set, go:

My three daughters:

Myself, in the middle, and two of my daughters:

Headed down the street:

Crossing Congress Avenue with the Capitol in the background:

Gathered at City Hall:

Speakers and entertainment:

Mayor Pro Tem Jackie Goodman

University of Texas journalism professor Robert Jensen

It was great to meet you! I'm hoping to make it to one of the DU brunches one of these days, especially if y'all ever decide to meet on the south side! ;)

12. Thanks!
I wish I had taken more of the march itself, especially along Sixth Street, where the crowds were big and we were flashed with hundreds of peace signs from folks in the balconies and on top of the buildings. But I was too caught up in the moment, I guess. :D

13. Thank you!
I'm hoping to draw them into more events. Sometimes they're so upset by the way things are that they want to just drop out. I hope events such as the peace walk will convince them that we can't give up!

9. Great pictures!
It was nice meeting you and your daughters yesterday. I wish we could have spent more time after the rally, but I was dead tired. Then I stayed out until 1:00am. I'm getting too old for this stuff.

15. You should have seen us adding 2+2.
Sonia saw the bumpersticker, and I saw the front of your shirt about your son in the Marines. Two brains were needed for that!

16. I notice a heavy contingency of FReepers at the rally
I recognize some of those signs from the Protest Warrior crowd. Did they get violent at all, or did they behave themselves?

17. Heavy contingent? There were maybe 10-15 of them.
They were across the street, and just stood there with their signs for the most part. Then the anarchists showed up and stood in front of them.

18. To us Dallasites, 10-15 IS a heavy FReeper contingent.
When we had our anti-war protests over the past couple of years, we'd be lucky if five protesters (including their kids) showed up. It was pretty sad. For them, that is.

The exception was with the Halliburton protests up here, which I've never been able to attend. Protest Warrior rolled out the big guns for those protests and even got violent at times.
