As you know an inspired team of folks has been working to put on a workday to reignite the Democratic base. We have been extraordinarily successful, with a huge outpouring of energy, good ideas, and dedicated volunteers to make it happen. We are expecting upwards of 500 folks to come to the UAW meeting hall in Hurst, part of the greater Fort Worth Metroplex, on Saturday, April 2 for an all day training intensive. Barbara Ann Radnofsky, the only declared Democrat running for the US Senate, will be a speaker, as is Jim Hightower. It is going to be GREAT. We will be promoted if not broadcast on Air America. They are going to plug us with a PSA. We are now talking to a barbecue guy to make sure we have enough food. Imagine that! We are going to play clips from MLK, JFK, RFK, Cesar Chaves, and maybe FDR to get us started. And either the theme from Rocky or the William Tell Orchestra to conclude the afternoon. We are going to stage the afternoon breakouts like a mini caucus, with the groups having signs to wave, and people going to the sign of the group they want to join. Maybe even hats, I don't know. We are really getting inspired over here. It is going to be very high spirits and fun. Howard Dean is expected to show up for the next one in July. Here is the text of the invite previously posted: The workday of APRIL 2, 2005, has been dubbed the DEMOCRATS CAN ACADEMY. This means that: : Democrats Can Win. Winning is a Learned Skill. The work day is a day long training session for aspiring Democratic Activists, to create an opportunity for networking, sharing of strategies and resources, for collaboration and for the development of skills needed to be a lean mean election-winning machine. Jim Hightower is coming to talk about how to Stop Beating Around the Bush. Barbara Ann Radnofsky, a woman attorney, litigator, and mediator, is coming form Houston to tell us why she decided to abandon her cushy corporate life (hah) and jump into the firing line to run for the United States Senate, of all things. Judge Mary Ellen Hicks is going to be the Moderator and MC of the program, in her best talk-show host impassioned advocate role, including an educational segment by Randy Dukes and hopefully Lisa Turner, in which they will enlighten us as to which seats are vulnerable for what races, and HOW WE CAN BEGIN TO TAKE BACK TEXAS. The newly formed North Texas Democratic Alliance was formed as a coalition of clubs, of which WMD (mostly women lawyers in Fort Worth) voted to be a constituent member. We are creating a gathering for all clubs to exchange information, meet each other, hear what others have done that is inspiring – and to prepare for the filing deadline of January 1 for races of all kinds of elections. THIS TIME WE ARE GOING TO BE PREPARED. This is an opportunity for you as one of the Democratic Clubs to bring food (there is a food chart on the back of the registration form- page two on Ellen’s attachment.) THIS IS NOT A SPECTATOR EVENT. IT IS AN AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION EVENT. There is a need for mentors, facilitators, LAWYERS, and all kinds of folks who can contribute to the energy and enthusiasm that is brewing. COME AND SEE WHAT WE CAN MAKE HAPPEN!!!! Consider the possibilities.
