DeLay's Fundraising Shenanigans on PBS Tonight 06/11/2004
I received the following email today. Thought you might be interested in checking out the bug man.

Dear DriveDemocracy.org member,

Tonight on PBS, Bill Moyers' show NOW will look at the DA's investigation of the Texas scandal involving illegal corporate contributions to Republican candidates and what it means for our state's democracy. Please tell your friends and check it out!!

Below is the program description from Moyers...

NOW with Bill Moyers
PBS Airdate: Friday, June 11, 2004 on PBS (check local listings)
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) has been called one of the most powerful and controversial leaders Congress has ever seen. Over the years, many believe DeLay has become the nexus of corporate money and politics in Washington. Today, one of his political action committees is at the center of a criminal investigation. What will this investigation reveal about the man they call "The Hammer" of the House of Representatives? On Friday, June 11, 2004 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings), NOW with Bill Moyers goes inside the current investigation into DeLay's alleged fundraising improprieties. With interviews from prosecutors and Washington insiders, NOW profiles DeLay, examines the case against Texans for a Republican Majority, a political action committee that was DeLay's brainchild, and analyzes what his brand of political fundraising means for democracy.
thank you,
Glenn Smith

1. DeLay on the cover
of this week's Houston Press and it ain't purdy. Too bad it goes off the stands next Thursday, before the convention goers get a chance at it. Actually, the Houston Press is usually pretty hard to come by 48 hours after it hits the stands.

Here's the link, where you can read the article.

2. I'm taping this one
This is the kind of thing you have to keep and re-watch. There will be so many corruption issues covered that you'll miss some of them the first time. We know most of them but hopefully it will be something you can pass along to educate other Texans. (Especially those in US Congressional Dist 22)

4. Good list find there Brazosboomer
Yes I thought the Moyer piece on DeLay was very good especially how they tied it all together over his career. This creep has had a bug up his ass from day one. And all he cares about is payback and making sure he gets his share of money changing hands and staying in power.

Greedy bastard. I hope Reagan is saving a place for you Tom, in the next life. Somewhere near the fire preferably.

Details of GOP finance probe can stay private

Attorney General Greg Abbott, a Republican, has ruled that Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle does not have to publicly disclose details of his grand jury investigation into 2002 Republican campaign finance activities.

Earle is investigating whether the Texas Association of Business and a political committee called Texans for a Republican Majority violated state law by using corporate money to pay for candidate-related campaign activities. TRM was founded by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land.

In a pair of extensive rulings, Abbott said Earle does not have to comply with most of the open records requests filed by Texas Republican Chairman Tina Benkiser and Texas Association of Business attorney Andy Taylor.
