The Hammer Gets Nailed -- Ethics Complaint Filed Against Tom DeLay


Today Congressman Chris Bell filed a three count ethics complaint against Tom DeLay.

Richard Morrison responded by saying: "Not since the dark days of Richard Nixon and Watergate have political corruption and partisan retribution had such a front-row seat in Washington.

"These serious and substantial charges against DeLay will make it clear to anyone who hasn't been paying attention that my opponent is the most dangerous politician in America."

Bell's complaint alleges that DeLay:

*Improperly accepted campaign contributions from Kansas-based Westar Energy Corp. in exchange for help securing a special exemption from federal regulation.

*Funneled illegal corporate contributions, including from Westar and others, through the Texans for a Republican Majority political action committee to GOP candidates for the Texas House.

*Solicited the assistance of the Federal Aviation Administration to track more than 50 Texas Democratic lawmakers who fled from Austin to Ardmore, Oklahoma in 2003. Their exodus denied the state House a quorum and temporarily stalled work on the DeLay-backed redistricting program.

“The fundamental principles of open government and respect for the rule of law are essential to a government ruled by the people and for the people. I believe Congressman Bell understands these truths; and displays great bravery in filing this ethics complaint,” Morrison said.

1. I don't live in Texas. Does this guy stand a chance or is it a long shot?

I would love to see DeLay booted out of congress this year.

2. Initially, I thought it was a long shot, but recent polls

show DeLay's approval rating at around 38%, and the frequent stories about ethics complaints could just push that lower!!! In addition, DeLay's redistricting plans brought into his district Democratic Galveston County, so our chances at defeatinig him this time are likely much better than in the past!

Hopefully it will be like the Presidential race, below 45% and you are toast!

I saw the story on NOW about DeLay and it doesn't look good for him at all. I think there is alot of weight behind these charges.
