Rodriguez's next race will be an uphill run

Gary Martin
Express-News Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON — Rep. Ciro Rodriguez says it's too early to write his political obituary.

But the four-term congressman faces a daunting challenge to recapture the seat he lost in the Democratic primary to Laredo lawyer Henry Cuellar, experts say.

"We all know that beating an incumbent is a hard thing to do, and in this case, Cuellar was helped by redistricting," said Amy Walter, an analyst with the independent Cook Political Report.

"For Rodriguez to win in 2006, Cuellar has to do something wrong," she said.

1. Cuellar will antagonize the voters by being the Republican tool he is.
I bet he can be beaten, voter fraud or no voter fraud. I predict Cuellar will piss off the majority of that district, which is heavily Democratic and Hispanic. I bet they will feel lied to.

2. I applaud Ciro for having a spine
Ciro Rodriguez' public service career does not have to be over. There was vote fraud in the primary and Ciro will rise again to take his proper seat. I wish him all the luck and determination to stick it out.

The "something wrong" that Cuellar has already done is win by vote fraud, and Rodriguez should continue to pursue that avenue until there is not doubt left in anyone's mind that the primary election was stolen. Then Cuellar will have to resign and Ciro can take his rightful place again.

Keep on fighting Ciro!

3. So far no vote fraud has been proven
Edited on Thu Jul-15-04 07:44 AM by Freddie Stubbs
Once he is sworn in the worst that could happen is for him to be expelled by the House. And that would only happen if it can be proven that he was involved in vote fraud. Even if that unlikely scenario were to happen, a new election would have to occur.
