1. I'm game. We need an excuse to get together.
Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 10:57 PM by TexasThoughtCriminal
It's been a long time since DFW DUers got together. This is an excellent reason to get together!

Where are y'all staying? Richardson?

2. We're only staying if there's a meetup, otherwise we'll
probably just drive home Friday night. Any suggestions for a hotel?

14. Priceline that hotel
You can get a great rate at one of those Richardson hotels on Priceline - they're generally available for $35-40, and the Richardson as well as the Holiday Inn Express participate. I sound like a commercial, but I stay up that way often when I am in town, and have never failed to find a cheap Priceline rate. Your chances are great at $35 on a Friday night for a 3-star.

Save your dollars. Also, there's a Campisi's on Campbell now - best pizza in Texas...

19. Animation via the Arts and Technology degree
We're going to have a private tour of the motion capture room. She's going to the state finals in the 3D Animation competition using Lightwave.

20. Coo-ool. UTD has a very impressive faculty.
A bit of a concrete jungle, but I was very impressed with the quality of the instruction (I'm a liberal arts undergrad - Austin College, and I am pretty particular after that wonderful college experience).

Good luck with the visit! I don't know any good Mexican places in that area - there IS a Pappacito's on 75 a bit further south in Richardson (like at Arapaho). It could be a fallback unless someone comes up with something better (on the east side of the road).

33. Hey There WHoDem & Punkondrugs
My mate has used Lightwave started out using it after NewTek gave us a copy for a competition contest back in the early 90's. We actually won a hand held scanner but they reneged, so NewTek didn't think it was fair that we got rooked out of our award.

Question for Punkondrugs
Is there somewhere on the net that has some of your work displayed that I can check out?
I would love to see some of your work.

Lightwave was one of the reasons I became a big fan of Babylon 5.
Then I became a huge fan after the story developed.

34. MM - punk is in her 2nd year of Lightwave and doesn't have
anything uploaded. I'll ask her for something I can post. She came in 2nd in a regional competition which qualifies her for the state finals in the 3D animation competition, but says that was with a partner so she can't take full credit.

Nothing wrong with sharing credit
It's cool that she is learning through a school. Where is she going to school currently?
It's good to know that there are places to learn this program. I know next to nothing about it except what I've watched hubby working on his different projects. He had to learn the software on his own!

I wouldn't mind joining you guys for dinner, and meeting you and your daughter, and seeing the D/FW gang, however North Dallas is a little outta my way.

I will be attending the convention, perhaps I will get to meet you then.

5. There are a couple of hotels there by UT
at the corner of Coit and Campbell. They might be spendy, but there's one called "The Richardson Hotel" which isn't a chain. There's a Radisson, and there's a Courtyard on Spring Valley, which is a little further south. Unfortunately all of the hotels used by my company are, well, corporate. :)

Find one you like the price on and I can give you a sanity check on the location and if I've heard anything about it.:)

27. Hi WestHoDem!
(That sounds a little terrible now that I think about it...tee hee...)

reprehensor and I can make it, unbelievably. We live way the heck out in the boonies and only have 1 car, but conveniently, I have the day off tomorrow (r might too), so our usual long haul home to walk the dog won't be necessary.

There is a Blue Goose Cantina in Plano on Park near Preston. Awesome food, and amazing margaritas. And they're only a very very small chain here in Dallas. A little more personality than some of the other places. I think they put Evercleer in the margaritas, so needless to say they're very popular!

You could hop right up 75, hang a left onto Park and Bob's yer uncle. Just drive up a couple intersections and you'd be right there.

47. Blue Goose is at 4757 W. Park Blvd. in Plano
According to fudge stripe, go north on 75, exit Park Blvd, go west (left), and according to Blue Goose's map, it's between Ohio and Preston.

Since we have the furthest drive, I vote for 7:00, but we'll do whatever everyone else wants...
