Location for Dallas Meetup
Executive Decision - I was gonna pick Mexican Food, but I remembered where there was some issue about burning people out. I thought Cajun would be fun, but the better Cajun place is Pappadeux's, but it has a bad reputation with their kitchen labor, so...

11:30 AM August 7th
Razzoo's
2504 Airport Freeway
Bedford - 817-318-0002

Please RSVP so we know how big of a table to get.

7. If there is no interest
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 12:29 AM by drfemoe
in 8/7 . why don't we plan another date? Since it is tax free weekend, I guess a lot of people will be shopping.
I have company from out of town, so I have no shortage of things to do myself.

I'll be watching for new suggestions.

L - have you gotten any rsvp's via pm?

Does it cost anything to set up a meet-up like Houston has done? >>

10. It looks like it's all set up already
for DU in general. I don't know how many are participating.. but see >> http://du.meetup.com/?change=1&localeId=616 ..

It's one option. Maybe at the meetup, we can decide where to meet up . .. I think membership is required to nominate locations. (?)

5. I may be soliciting some advice from you guys soon

I will proboably get a job offer this week and if it is sweet enough, I will be moving to Dallas later in the year.

I am a native San Antonian with deep roots here and lots of family and friends and two kids, a son in 5th grade and a daughter in 3rd grade. Obviously if I'm feeling a little uneasy and uncertain about such a move especially with all the testimonials about the abundance of the rabid right-wing in the metroplex.

I may need advice as to possible places to look for a house etc.
It's good to know that if I do move, I'll at least have some DU buddies up there.

6. I'm actually planning
to move to Austin as soon as I can get things worked out. I expect it will take several months.
A sweet job makes a lot of difference around here. But I've been in DFW too long .. most of my life. Time to move on.

Good luck w/ the job ! You'll want to consider neighborhoods close or convenient to your work, most likely. Let us know ..

9. I think just maybe, Razzoo's was a bad choice and may be a playing
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 04:32 AM by anarchy1999
a part in your lack of response. I don't know for sure. Just a guess. There were alot of us here responding and looking forward to another get together and then it all came apart. Sorry, but anarchy1999 has no desire to drive from Dallas to go to Razzoo's. Even to meet up with everyone from DU. We avoid that place, period.

11. Maybe so
There are not many non-chain restaurants of note and which are reasonable in price in the mid-cities and that do not have some sort of association with something conservative. The various Pappa's chains suffer from hiring irregularities, Brinker type chains have a strong streak to supporting the Pukes, the various steak houses are not very friendly to vegetarians and tend to be very conservative. Coupled with a several suggestions to do something other than Mexican, this left very few options.

You do what you can do.

I would strongly suggest that people take the time to offer constructive options this next go-around. Playing it safe doesn't seem to work.

As for myself, I'm fairly game to meet almost anywhere provided my money goes to someplace with ethics. Can be cheap or mid-range expensive - it's the people I want to meet, not the restaurant provided I don't come away with food poisoning.

13. Well, there's always Kalachandjis - can't swear as to the Food Poisoning
keeps it interesting! I will be hosting some parties here downtown at my gallery, I'll post info as the dates approach. I am very close to the Dallas County Democratic offices (on Parry), so maybe hardworking volunteer DUers will want to join a liberal libacious happy hour.... Sorry I'll miss ya'll this time.
