Austin: Jim Hightower Fundraiser & Booksigning
Come on out to Mother Egan's Irish Pub (715 W. 6th) next Thursday, August 5th at 5:00pm and hear populist firebrand Jim Hightower give BushCo its due. He'll be sharing his thoughts on the sad sorry mess W's gotten us into, and he'll offer us some advice on how we can start to turn the tide. (Step one:, Elect a new President!) In addition he'll be autographing copies of his new book, Let's Stop Beating Around the Bush.

Admission is free, but we're asking for a $10 donation to help fund local Kerry campaign efforts here in Travis County. Copies of Jim's book will be available for purchase as well.

3. Here's a couple of pics

We had a nice turnout considering Barack Obama was also in town for a fundraiser. Too bad they had to happen at the same time. Hightower then walked over to independent bookstore Book People and did a book signing there too. The book is great, filled with fun things like crossword puzzles and great illustrations.

(book excerpt)
This Bud's For You
In 2002, an investment advisory on the Internet noted that if you bought $1,000 worth of Enron stock the year before, your investment would've been shrunk to $16.50. If you bought $1,000 worth WorldCom stock, you would have had only $5 left from your investment. But ...if you'd have bought $1,000 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the stock), quaffed all the beer, and cashed in the cans for the ten-cent deposit, you would have $214. So, the prudent investment strategy is clear: Drink heavily and recycle. And don't let anyone put your social security in Wall Street's hands.

5. Ha that would be you, no?
And then that sexy woman who kindly agreed to take your picture (the one who looks like she's wearing a black shirt) would be VelmaD. I think VelmaD's T-shirt was actually blue, but that's just my camera.

She thought I was weird for taking a picture of her, taking a picture of you. I though it was just funny. Just shows we have back up surveillance at DU events. Ha Ha.
