Bug Man Tom DeLay
After listening to Lou Dubose discuss his book "The Hammer" - the biography of Tom Delay, I am more depressed than ever about the state of affairs of this country.
Getting rid of shrub won't make a difference with this man in office. I have lost most of my confidence that he'll be prosecuted; one of the lawyers prosecuting his 'friends' is a close acquaintance.
A former pest control business owner, DeLay's political involvement came about because the EPA banned his favorite bug-killing chemical. He was angry; no matter the chemical had horrible side effects to people and the environment. Considered a terrible speaker and not much more than a nuisance in the Texas house, no one paid him any attention. He had a reputation as being a hard-drinking party boy.
Eventually Delay found Jesus and stopped drinking (sound familiar?)
Delay went on to become the most powerful man in Congress through "you owe me" (junior republican congressmen are indebted to him - he financed their campaigns), and in turn is successful in controlling lobbyists. If they don't side with him and his boys, they won't get what they want.
He was behind Clinton's impeachment and he had shrub's Tax Cut Bill and Medicare Bill see law via lobbyists. And then there's the redistricting of Texas....
Forgive me if I'm behind the curve on this one; I knew Delay was dangerous but I didn't realize the extent of his power. It's mind-boggling.
I must buy this book.

Delay is a big problem, but he is vulnerable. Check out www.brazosriver.com from the heart of Sugarland. Mr. De-lay is not well loved at home. I come from a truly Demo/ blue collar/union area. I can't figure out how a minority Rethug population has gained control. The same is true in Sugarland. I know that kicking a few bucks from more than a few poeple around the country could easily kick "Hot Tub Tom" back to his bug sprayer.
We're All in this together, let's get the truly evil out of there now and put a hex on them so they can't return.

4. Apparently
it was bucks that got him where he is (not a natural born leader from what I've read) - so it'll have to be bucks that kick him out of Washington. :hi:

6. Thanks for the list Brazosboomer
We heard Lou Dubose at our Austin for Kerry meetup, but he didn't have any books to sell yet. I do want a signed copy, and glad to see he's back in Austin on the 6th for that.

I loved the NPR show. I think more people will get educated about what a vile and evil person Duhlay is; and how he's responsible (along with Karl Rove) for the sorry state of our country. He's the reason Clinton got impeached. He needs to go to jail for his collective crimes.

7. If you REALLY want to do something about this DeLay problem
then please do something to help Richard Morrison knock him off:

http://morrisonfor22.com

You don't have to donate; if you have some extra cell phone minutes then offer to do some phone-banking. Anyone, anywhere in the USA (with a cell plan that offers no LD charges) can do this.

We've got to get rid of this guy, and we can, with everyone's help.

8. Great point PDittie
The best cure for the roach virus Delay, is to inoculate Dist 22 with Richard Morrison.

Here's a good plea on his fundraising. And any little bit helps him stay on TV.

Increase the Heat on Tom DeLay!
Sometimes it takes a while, but justice does have a way of catching up with people. Almost two years after DeLay, Inc. executed a massive conspiracy to pour corporate money into 22 Texas State House races, the walls are falling in on DeLay, Inc. DeLay's cronies are being indicted in Austin and others are the subject of Senate hearings and exposes in the Washington Post.

DeLay's nemesis Richard Morrison is on track to raise $250,000 this quarter. Help Richard turn up the heat on DeLay by contributing here: http://morrisonfor22.com/contribute/contribute.php

DeLay stands accused of flooding the Texas elections with illegal corporate money in 2002. He used the influence that bought him to force thru redistricting in 2003. As the Houston Chronicle explained:

TRMPAC raised about $600,000 in corporate money that was used to help 20 Republican candidates win House seats in 2002, giving the GOP a legislative majority for the first time since Reconstruction. A third of all of TRMPAC's donations came from corporations.

As a result, Craddick was elected House speaker, and DeLay in 2003 pushed a redistricting bill through the Legislature that likely will result in a Republican majority in the state's congressional delegation after this fall's elections.
