Harris County's Jerry Birnberg (our fearless leader) has done a great job getting folks ready for Tuesday. Will there be issues? Sure. But he has taken as many advance steps as possible to smooth things out.
Case in point. We've all heard the Hillary points about grabbing the packets. That's not happening in Harris County. All election judges have been instructed to not release the packets before 7 p.m. Between 7 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., the election judge may only release the packet to the precinct chair or the precinct chair nominee (for those precincts without a chair). At 7:15, assuming no one has claimed the packet with the convention materials, the election judge will release it to the first person who asks for it. So, by in large, there will be few fights in that regard.
Second, you cannot lock the doors. As a rule, it is against most fire codes in effect where these meetings will take place.
Third, the sign in does not close until the permanent chair announces that it is closed. We've been told that the order of business is:
1. Announce tmporary chair (precinct chair or designee) 2. Announce temporary secretary (by temporary chair) 3. Sign in 4. Elect permanent chair 5. Elect permanent secretary 6. Final time for sign in -- SIGN IN CLOSES NOW. 7. Start the delegate selection process.
Pretty good system.
Good luck, my fellow caucusites!
