We had to put a dog to sleep today that we have given the best life we could for the years of her life.

She was not a nice dog. We had to make accommodations for her. It was not easy. But we did the best we could for her.

I expressed that in the Lounge, hoping for (no, expecting) the same response I got when we adopted a cat who is the joy of our lives.

You know how many replies I've gotten except my own? ONE.

Apparently it's only virtuous to do right by animals if you profess everlasting love for them. How about doing right for them no matter what, if you have taken that responsibility? That's my way.

Well, I got THREE so far, but that's <=0 in the Lounge, in my experience. (Not calling the very much appreciated few who replied zeroes! Thank you!)

I'm also sorry that you had to make such a difficult decision. It sounds like you gave her a good life and the love she deserved. Thank you for taking your responsibilities of pet ownership seriously, and trying to do the best for the furry kids that come into your life. I'm so glad that your new addition adopted you (I really think they select us, and only let us think its we who adopt them!), and has brought such joy to you and yours! :hi:

3. Sounds like you took your responsibility seriously

I'm not a huge animal fan, and even my husband and kids will tell you that. But it seems I'm the only one who remembers to check their food and water, let them in and out of the house. My kids, who "own" the animals, should do it, but I'm the one who does. Because it's a family responsibility, and the animals depend on us. Sometimes, with kids and dogs, you do what you signed up for, even if it's not as you expected it would be.

Rest well, good and faithful servant (and I'm not talking about the dog). Making decisions about another life is never easy.
