Groan - "Guess Who" is Speaking @ a Texas University?
This is a state university:

Karl Rove to Speak at WTAMU

CANYON, Texas—Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff and senior adviser to President George W. Bush, will speak at 7 p.m. Friday, May 8 at West Texas A&M University as part of the University’s spring commencement activities.

Rove will deliver a pre-commencement address at the First United Bank Center the night before WTAMU’s two commencement exercises on Saturday, May 9. His presentation is open to the University’s 2009 graduates, their friends and family as well as the Texas Panhandle community.

“Karl Rove is a nationally prominent individual who for seven years served in an extremely important position in the Bush administration. He has been referred to as a ‘master political strategist,’ a ‘passionate advocate’ for his positions, and ‘The Architect’ of two successful presidential campaigns,” Dr. J. Patrick O’Brien, WTAMU president, said. “Bringing Karl Rove to the WTAMU campus won’t be without controversy, but this is an individual with tremendous experience and insight in the workings of the executive branch of the U.S. Government. We are excited to have him speak on the WT campus.”

1. Coward
Wonder why he won't speak at UT Austin?

Or Thurgood Marshall School of Law? Or Prairie View A&M? Or UT-Pan American?

Too many intelligent students at those schools, I suppose.

2. Sigh, you may have a point
As http://www.connectamarillo.com/news/story.aspx?id=281178">per a story on one of the area news stations:

Rove will speak at the school's spring commencement convocation. Pronews 7 has gotten emails from some community members who think Rove is a bad choice. We made a trip to the W.T. campus yesterday to see what the students thought about Rove, it turned out many of them didn't know who he was. Jay Ricci talked to about 20 students and found out that hardly any of them knew Rove, the one we did speak, who knew Rove, said the choice was fine. W.T student, Megan Staunton, said that she has heard he is "controversial, but I hadn't heard that he'd done anything wrong specifically, so I don't thing it's a bad idea that he'll be our commencement speaker. I think it signifies where we've been in the past and I don't think it would be a bad idea....I think he would have a lot to say."

3. >> it turned out many of them didn't know who he was
And that's what's the matter with kids today...! ;)

Hopefully, enough of them *do* know to stir up a protest, and hopefully he will be consigned to the dustbin of history so they won't have to care.
