Kinky forms fundraising committee (Possible run for Dem Gov)
AUSTIN (AP) - Humorist, singer and author Kinky Friedman announced Tuesday he is forming a political committee to raise money for a possible run for governor in next year's Democratic primary.

Friedman ran for governor as an independent in 2006. He said he will spend the next few months traveling the state to talk to Texans about a possible candidacy.

In a letter to supporters this week, Friedman acknowledged he is a humorist but that "these are not humorous times." He said "there is a pathetic lack of leadership at the state level."

1. He's raising money to enrich himself
He's not really interested in doing the work of really getting elected and working on public policy issues. He's just interested in selling more of his merchandise. He's a big con artist on that front.

4. Exploratory committee?
Just another expression for target marketing. In this case I hear he's got a new doll with an even bigger d*ck extender, I mean cigar.

6. I agree.
Do we have ANYONE on the Democratic side whose a strong candidate??? Out of the three (Rick Noriega, White?, and "?", which one has the better chance to win in 2010? We should probably start trying to get out the vote NOW, since it takes so long to light a fire under these voters. Obama's Organizing For America is here now, so hopefully we can begin the grassroots effort.

Kinky Friedman Explores Run for Governor as Democrat
Kinky Friedman is officially exploring another run for Governor. This time he is embracing the party he has routinely voted against and blocked from the Governors mansion in 2006.

That's right, Kinky Friedman is exploring a run for Texas Governor as a Democrat.

(snip)
We don't take you seriously. And we will pay attention to you and your race. But once you burn the activist who elected Barack Obama or the Democrats who volunteered hundreds of hours to help get us within two seats of the House or pick up a State Senate seat for the first time in year, once you burn them, the bridge is gone. You weren't there to turn Dallas blue or make Harris 85% blue. You never helped the Travis County efforts and you have been hidden since 2006 except to promote yourself.

5. Below from Quorum Report
Kinky is full of bad jokes that Texas does not need anymore of in leadership positions.

KINKY SAYS ACT II WILL NOT BE A COMEDY

In his letter declaring his second bid for Governor, the humorist says he can united the Democrats and add on the Indies.

Well, that’s what humorist Kinky Friedman heard, and the singer-songwriter formally launched his second bid for Texas governor. The move was not a surprise, and nor was Friedman’s decision to align himself with the Democrats rather than repeat his Act 1 bid as an Independent.

“Will the independents support me and vote as Democrats?” Friedman said in an open letter on his Web site. “I think they will. I think many Texans appreciate and respect anyone who gets knocked down and gets back up to fight again. Will Democrats take me seriously? I think they will.”

7. Why the hell not?
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 04:41 PM by Baby Snooks
I do wish Molly Ivins were around to tell everyone why the hell not but I suspect she would suggest we give up and just ask Spain to take us back. Which might not be so bad - at least their banks are solvent. I guess they would have to take Mexico back as well. Perhaps they could give Mexico to Rick Perry so he could be king of something. At least we would be rid of him. Which might be the only way we will be rid of him.

Somehow it really is difficult to think of Kinky Friedman as a Democrat. Of course to be honest it really is difficult to think of him as a Republican.

It definitely is impossible to think of him as a Republicrat which is probably the only thing working in his favor.

He's got a lot of nerve even *mentioning* Ann Richards and Barbara Jordan. He's not fit to lick their boots.

12. On Bill Press this AM, Press was talking about Gov. Goodhair
and saying maybe Texas *should* just secede and then we'd put all the crazies on one side of the border and all the sane people on the other side.

Then he said "but I'd keep Kinky on our side." ( :wft: Has the man not been paying attention????? He knows who Kinky is and yet he wants him "on our side"???????)

I tried and tried to call and tell him what a stupid statement that was, but couldn't get through. Annoyingly enough, I got neither a busy signal nor a voice mail that worked - for my trouble I got a voice mail that *didn't* work. Second piece of proof he's not too bright.... ;)
