In case you haven't noticed, we are NOT putting up with Texas bashing anymore
We are tired of having to fight 2 battles, one with the GOP idiots IRL & one here on DU, where we SHOULD expect to get some support & help from our fellow Dems instead of getting slapped in the face with cheap shots. We're tired of hitting "alert," only to have the Texas bashing threads left up for hours or days. So, we're fighting back.

Don't tell me I'm thin-skinned, or that "everyone needs to put up with this now & then." This isn't a "now & then" thing on DU...IT IS EVERY FUCKING DAY & IT GETS WORSE DURING HURRICANE SEASON. It's death by a 1000 paper cuts.

So, we're not going to play nice with the bullies anymore. The rules are simple: You bash our state, we kick your ass.

Now, if you want to make fun of Perry or DeLay or whatever local nutjob, fine. Hell, we'll even give you more material to work with! But leave our state out of it. If you want our money & our votes, don't mess with Texas.

54. I had to hit alert the other day myself.
I stick to the front page and the Texas forum for the most part, so I hadn't really seen how bad it got. I came across one post that was just plain mean, basically "don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out" sort of thing. I called them on it and alerted the mod.

I just have to remind myself that non-Texans just won't get it - that as conservative as our state is, we love it and we'll defend it. We may have given the world Rick Perry, but we can also proudly claim Ann Richards and Molly Ivins. (I'll have none of W; he was born in Connecticut and went to Yale and Harvard. He's not Texan in my book, whatever the rest of the country thinks.)

Just keep on those threads, it'll die down eventually...

2. I'm right there with you dg
I'll be monitoring with you.

Here is what really riles me - instead of seeing the huge opportunity we potentially have in Texas in 2010 and helping us - they prefer the cheap pissing shot.

Instead of focusing their rage and anger on the Texas republicans and their leader Rick Perry - they use that rage gun on the whole state, inflicting huge collateral damage. If our own Democrats don't see us making progress in Texas why should the DNC or the DCCC? The Texas hating DUers are helping the Texas Republican party hang on to power. :grr:

Rick Perry is in the fight of his life in that Republican primary and we need to keep making fun of him but at the same time let him rile up his base so that he wins the primary. We have a better chance of beating him than KBH. He really is only popular with the extreme conservatives now anyway.

So potentially we have a chance to win KBH's seat in the Senate and make a credible run at the Governorship.

5. Medicare does not pay outside of the country
we need to point out to all Seniors that Perry would, if given the chance, deep six all of their medical coverage.

Perry is the tool of TAB which claims membership of most of the local Chambers of Commerce.

Following the money, Local Governments subsidize the local CofC who in turn subsidize and take direction from TAB. It all comes back to the local community in the form of political campaign advertising. In other words we are getting tax payer funded campaigns, where government controls government.

dg, you are so right about fellow DUers heaping as vitriol crap on the whole state.

Funny thing is check this out from the Rachel Maddow Show 4-16-09

GOV. RICK PERRY, ® TEXAS: Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that. If Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that.

MADDOW: Who knows what might come of it. That was the governor of Texas, Rick Perry, flirting to the point of adultery with the idea of his state seceding from the union.

What the governor‘s argument has in political potency is perhaps making up for its lack of historical accuracy. The Texas Constitution does not actually grant the state the right to secede from the country. A fact that even the Texas secede organization acknowledges. But even though he‘s talking about secession generally, Governor Perry isn‘t actually pursuing it right now. Instead, he has endorsed legislation that just asserts Texas‘ sovereignty.

And Texas is, by no stretch of the imagination, a lone state on this issue. Oklahoma passed its own sovereignty resolution yesterday. Other states, including Arizona, Montana, Michigan, Missouri and Washington have all had similar resolutions introduced this year. There are also known sovereignty movements reported under way in at least 20 other states, including Pennsylvania, California, and Alaska—the very state whose governor, Sarah Palin, is married to a man who is twice a registered member of the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party.

So, apparently Texas isn't alone in this stupid idea and we should point this out every time someone brings up the Texas secession crap.

I don't understand why Texas is bashed more than anywhere else, unless it's jealousy. Besides which, there really is no archetypical Texan. West Texas is completely different from East Texas and North Central Texas and South Texas, which is why some people once thought it should be divided up.

15. Best way to silence them if they are going to use a blanket statement
and use the generalized word "Texans" or "Texas"...call them fervent chimp and gop supporters...after all, they DID live IN the US for 8 years while chimp was at the helm. Since they **lived** in the US and it was the head of the US making comments/pulling shit, it meant that US residents and the US stood in lockstep with him.
How many of them would have been the first to complain/speak out if another country would have used a similiar blanket statement about the US for the last eight years? And if they are so willing to back up their blanket statements, then they must have approved when US citizens/residents went abroad and were treated poorly simply because they were Americans.
Look at it this way, once TX goes blue, we'll know who the jump on the bandwagon crowd is and who were truly there from the beginning and fought the good fight to GET the state to go blue.

We're not taking this shit anymore. We are Americans and we work hard for the Democrats like any other state.

49. We've reached a new DU record low of "mean"
We've never been liked as a state and a lot of that had to do with bush. We were the easy target since Texas did launch his political career. Keep in mind that DU as a web board was born out of the frustration of the 2000 election. We could all agree on that one thing in the beginning - bush was a dangerous idiot. And pretty much every fear we had of him came true.

I think that the hatred of bush on this board always spilled over to Texas and Texans by default. Tarred by association. Lots of other states get it too - Florida and many of the southern states. But we're pretty big so we've got a big target on our back.

We didn't have state forums until 4 or so years ago, so everyone had to be a little bit more civil maybe. I'm not sure. I know that I chose to mainly hang out in the Texas DU forum because the anti-Texas posts were common enough to make it not very pleasant to hang out in GD.

In either case since Perry reared his stupid head about the secession, it's been non stop Texas bashing. And the posters are not usually Texas bashers, or so we thought. But the pack mentality of stupidity just kicks in to overdrive. Once someone starts a Texas bashing thread, they start to pile on.

It's been sad to see some people you thought weren't mean - really getting ugly. :(

I've been visiting DU since bush too, but didn't write and stayed mostly on the front page. I understand people's anger toward bush, no doubt, but Dems in conservative states, like Texas, really need the support of other Dems. The area I live in, suburbs of Houston, is 90% repub. If it hadn't been for Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, KOS, Huffington, DU and a few others, I'd be nuts by now : )

55. It has been out of control
There is a bitterness, yes, an obsessive bitterness that has been displayed on DU. Perry says his asinine statement, and that opened the floodgates for the many bigots to share their hate for our state. It's sad, irrational, and so unnecessary.

I'm alerting, too. Another person on the DU lounge is referring to Cowboy fans as "Cowpussies." I know not all Texans are Cowboy fans, but again, that goes beyond the pale. And this person in the past (an Eagles fan) bragged about going back to a club to see a Cowboy fan get his ass kicked. Folks, that is sick, and not at all progressive.

57. Lemme guess?
Probably the same one who got the FLDS mixed up with Big Love & then told *ME* she knew more than I did (when I tried to correct her & point out that BL is a TV SHOW) because *she* read a few articles in the New York Times (they were several years old & badly sourced)& my experience was (quote) rather limited. (unquote). :grr: :nuke: :grr:

Yeah, so limited that I'm part of a group recognized by the state & local bar associations for our work in that case. :eyes:

Big talkers and no action.

What's really funny, well, damn the Texas forum is the busiest state forum on this board. So they want to bash us, but here we are, actually posting/discussing/acting on changing our state. Really, it must be so easy to live in some blue state where you don't have to do anything except vote (and probably ONLY in presidential/congressional races, fuck those other ones).

Or I'm supposed to move? Screw that! I love where I live. I love my family, I like-sometimes my job, I love my little house, I ain't moving. :)

I'm beginning to think that no OP should have the word "Texas" in it. It's just not safe right now. Doesn't matter if the poster didn't intend to have it deteriorate into Texas bashing, every thread with an opportunity to bash Texas, is open season on us.

Really :grr:

89. He should add Texas to the taboo list...
My experience with having my "outspokenness" censored has indicated to me that there are three things on the taboo list. Israel, Michelle Obama, and Catholics. Maybe Texas should be added.

As for the person who bashed Judge Judy I will bash you right back and point out you're from Texas again if you do it again. She'd be a lot better than lord-only-knows-who will be appointed. Half the law is common sense. Heard that early in life and it's true. She has more common sense than anyone else in this country. And would be perfect for the Supreme Court. Unfortunately it doesn't pay enough.

Consider the source. Last year I posted something about Barbara Jordan with regard to immigration reform. Someone actually asked who she was. I was tempted to post she was Ann Richards' twin sister. But thought better of it. Fearful they might ask who Ann Richards was. Some are not the brightest light bulbs.

How about demanding that all the DU Texas Haters---it may have escaped your attention, but there are a shitload of them---funnel their energy into something more productive? 90. What would be nice....
Instead of Texas being known as the base of the Republican Party, it would be nice if it became known as the base of the Democratic Party.

That won't happen unless we bash ourselves a little. I am still trying to figure out this curiosity of "works well with Republicans" that seems to have permeated our campaigns - who on earth wants someone who works well with Rick Perry or the two Bush lapdogs or their "fellow travelers" in Austin? I certainly don't and I was a Republican until the Supreme Court "elected" a president in 2000 and I had to finally look at what the Republican Party had become. Although I already knew. I lost some friends and made some enemies when I dared to support Al Gore.

NEWS FLASH! - Bryan, Texas-----Texas's worst air disaster occurred when a small two-seater Cessna 152 plane, piloted by two Texas A&M University students, crashed into a cemetery earlier today in College Station. Texas search and rescue workers have recovered 300 bodies so far and expect the number to climb as digging continues into the evening.

Now come on. That is funny. You have never told a Dumb Aggie joke?
