Vice President Biden expected in Austin in a week

It’s an official secret for now, but I’m told by Central Texas Democrats that Vice President Biden is expected in Austin a week from today to headline a private fund-raiser being pulled together by the Democratic National Committee, the entity that absorbed President Obama’s presidential campaign committee when Obama entered the White House.

The latest plan is for Biden to attend a fundraising luncheon in the home of Obama donors and, before or after, swing by the East Austin headquarters of Lance Armstrong’s Live Strong Foundation. (It could be the mix of official business—meaning a foundation visit or something of the like—and politics enables Biden to fly to Austin on Air Force Two, his government-assigned plane.)

I’ve also heard Democratic speculation about Biden addressing a joint session of the Republican-majority House and Senate—potentially a fine spectacle presuming Biden attempts a spirited defense of the federal stimulus package that’s been chewed upon by lawmakers and GOP Gov. Rick Perry.

Wonder whose home Biden is visiting?

1. I'm guessing Garry Mauro's 'cuz that was where Obama was
Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 04:08 PM by Melissa G
when he first came through Austin. 'Course that was a while back when he was just elected to the Senate.
They probably need a bigger House for the VP than just the Mauro compound.

2. Well I'm sure we'll hear something
We probably won't be able to "afford" it but at least they are showing some interest in Texas. I know, I know most of the money raised will go out of Texas but I bet Biden gets an earful about how the DNC better be willing to spend some money in Texas next cycle too.

3. I was invited by a friend or I never could have afforded that Obama handshake the first time
and that was when he was just recently elected to the Senate!

Yup, should be interesting to see the price tag on this next shindig.:hi:

8. That giant sucking sound you hear, dg
Will be the DNC air express hauling Texas donor money right out of Texas.

You know that. Texas is the ATM of the country. :(

10. Well, this shit's got to stop
If I get the gumption to run for state party chair, that will be my platform. My signs will be the "Come & Take It" flag with a few $$ in the middle.

5. Like maybe make TX more than a DNC "flyover state"
as candidates are flown to do pre-election rallies in NM every 4 years...As a vaccuum sticks out of the plane bottom to collect money DNC-bound money from Texans?

Pretty cool that VP Biden will be in Goodhair's own backyard, though. Especially if he meets at the TX leg with both Dems and repukes. Make goodhair the odd man out---Biden, TX Dem *and* repubs in one corner wanting Texans to get the unemployment bennies..and goodhair in the other corner all by his lonely.

9. $30,400 per couple!
That sounds like an auction!

You know the bushies would constantly have fundraisers where they charged $10,000 a person or more. So this just means that the people with a lot of money on either side get to hob nob with the executive branch. Those parties are not for the average Democratic party worker. :(

12. It doesn't just *sound* like an aution -
it *is*. As are all these big-money fund raisers. Buying access, at the very least. Can you say "campaign finance reform"....?
